Stephen Bernard BYERS

Stephen Bernard Byers was born on April 3, 1943 in Saint John, New Brunswick. He attended Grandview Elementary School. He left school at a very young age with dreams of an entrepreneur’s heart. Not knowing how to read or write did not stop this energetic young man from making his dreams come true.

Stephen started a cleaning company and he hired his younger sister Judy to work for him. With Stephen’s humor, out would come the ‘’white glove; test, leaving both brother and sister laughing.

He owned a truck sanitation company, which also supplied Stephen with numerous stories that he would tell about this time of his life. His ventures included a towing company, bottle depot, A&S Autos which dealt in buying and selling cars. He also owned a store called Smiley’s Balloons which was a party supply store.

He enjoyed his antique cars and his cowboy hat.

.As mentioned, Stephen had a lifelong love for cars. His first car was a 1956 Chevy. He loved antique vehicles and one of his may projects was a convertible 1972 Buick Skylark. At a car show, he won a trophy for this entry. He also built and drove his own stock car and this is the first car he rebuilt.

Stephen and Anne-Marie became a couple in 1975 and they were married on June 25, 1994.

They have been together for 43 years and when you saw one the other was never too far away. They adored each other!

Stephen loved to talk about his family. Stephen was also a talented artist who could draw with great skill. He was very proud of daughter Crystal and he would comment on how smart she was and he would claim that she had got her photographic memory from him!

Stephen was a family man, he adored his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and would do anything for anyone.

Stephen is survived by his loving wife, Anne-Marie Byers (Richard); his sons, Guy Gallant, Gerald Gallant (Pam); daughters, Crystal Byers, Kathy Richard-Goentzel (John), Debbie Gallant; brothers, Alfred Byers (Mary-Anne), Brian Byers (Tina); sisters, Maria Johanson (George), Judy Thorpe (John), Cathleen McInerny (Joe); brothers-in-law Alex Richard (Gail) and Guy Richard (Joan); sisters-in-law Mabel McGraw (Ernie), Yvonne McGraw (Donnie), Jeanette Collette; as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Stephen was predeceased by his brother, Norbert Byers; his daughter-in-law, Krista Gallant; son-in-law, Emery Richard; brothers-in-law, Eric Collette and Arthur McGraw; sister-in law, Cheryl Richard.

It is important to know that Stephen loved everyone ….and to say he would do anything for anyone is not only as fact but an understatement.
