Chester Karol HINCZ
On December 23rd, 2021 Chester passed away peacefully at the age of 78 years, with his wife by his side. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Linda, his children Luke & wife Carcey, Alison. Max and Erin, as well as his many grandchildren. He was predeceased by his mother (Wala), father (Jerzy), brother (Andrew) and daughter (Hilary).
Chester was born in Vilnius, Lithuania and spent his childhood in Poland. He emigrated to Montreal, Canada with his mother and brother in the late 50’s. He brought with him a passion for swimming that ultimately landed him a place on the Canadian Water Polo team. Through swimming and water polo he made lifelong friends that were very important to him. His years in water polo took him to England, Cuba, United States and the Pan American Games in Winnipeg.
Chester loved his years at the University of Alberta where he earned a Degree in Arts and several awards for his participation on the swim and water polo teams including MVP intervarsity swimming and the “Block A Club”.
He took his knowledge and skills learned to the next level by coaching several teams including the Edmonton Women’s team, to a gold medal in the Pacific Rim Championship Tournament in California. There were many teams coached, prizes and awards won over the years, but his “Girl’s Team” held a special place in his heart.
Chester was a good man, husband and father. He retired from the City of Edmonton, Parks and Recreation after 35 years of service. He never took a casual sick day in the years he worked there. He will be remembered as thoughtful and considerate, always ready to lend a helping hand to family and anybody who needed it. Enjoying a good cup of coffee and good conversation were some of his favorite things. He loved fishing and travelling to visit our family in Manitoba, who he loved dearly.
We all love Chester and will miss him deeply and will hold our cherished memories of him deep in our hearts. He will never be forgotten.
Psalm 117 Praise the Lord, all nations everywhere. Praise him, all the peoples of the earth. For he loves us very dearly, and his truth endures. Praise the Lord.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, January 9, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at Church of Abundant Life with Pastor Eve Bassett officiating. Interment will follow in Bield Cemetery in Bield, Manitoba. If friend so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Stollery Hospital. Linda, Luke and family. My sincere condolences to you all. We grew up altogether in Woodcroft and I remember Chester fondly as a gentle, kind soul. He made the world a better place. Know I’m thinking of you all during this difficult time.
I had the privilege of working with Chester at the Parks and Recreation Northwest District office in the late 1980s. I was a new day camp leader and then became part of the Rec Tech 2 and 3 crew in the following summers. He was fun loving, had the best laugh, and he was a professional through and through. I have many fond memories of Parks and Rec summers and he is a big part of those memories. Rest in peace, Chester; Heaven’s playgrounds and Green Shacks just got that much more fun!

My deepest sympathies to all of you. I’m so grateful to have known Chester. His kindness, inviting smile and great sense of humour will always be remembered. I spent a fair bit of time in the Hincz household growing up and have many fond memories. However, one
memory that will always stick with me, is watching the Oilers games, Seinfeld and sometimes Trailers Park Boys, in the basement with him and my best friend Max . He was always good company and just so nice to be around. May you Rest In Peace Chester 🙏🏽💙

I worked with Chester at Parks & Recreation/City-Wide Services. We had our “Block A” sweaters in common and wore them to work one day, celebrating that special day (whatever it was), but especially the fact that they still fit! He was a quiet guy but really a good friend and had such interesting stories, especially about his fishing trips. Hold fast!
I worked with Chester at the Revillon Bldg. He was such a quiet but interesting guy. We had many conversations about his fishing trips and shared a “Block A” sweater in common. We wore them to work one day more to prove they still fit than any other reason. My condolences to you all.

Very kind soul, warm heart, understanding, generous, good, wise, constant, supportive of all, encouraging to all, unfailing, helpful always, always saw the fun(ny) side of life.

When I married Len, Chester and Linda in came in the package. And I am forever grateful. Greg, you have said it perfectly. May this day be filled with joy knowing that he now is in Heaven with God and all his spiritual family. The tears we shed today is for our loss. May God’s Grace be with each and everyone of youse.
My condolences to Linda and family. Chester was my coach for a few years, great man and coach. I have been reflecting this week on fond memories of our waterpolo days. He will be missed.
Chester was an icon amongst “the polo boys”. He was our coach, mentor, big brother, teammate, friend. His infectious laugh, sense of humor and wonderful personality will be dearly missed. RIP Chester.

I wish to convey my sincere condolences to Chester’s family on his passing. I worked with Chester in the Parks and Rec Northwest District Office through most of the 1980s and in other department areas in the early 1990s. I remember a kind spirit, a great sense of humour, a mediator, a good friend – and an insatiable appetite for (strong) coffee. I remember him being particularly annoyed one day when a co-worker un-knowingly washed his coffee pot. I am saddened to hear of his passing. May the memories of him provide comfort for his family and friends.
