Diane Lynne JOHNSTON
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved sister Diane Lynne Johnston after a courageous battle with cancer. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by family.
Diane was the 4th child of seven, born to Russ & Mary Johnston of Wynyard, Sask. Diane made her home in Edmonton, AB where she was employed for over 37 years as a Supervisor of Records Services for the Provincial Government.
Diane adored her nieces and nephews, children, photography, travelling, was an avid reader and a huge Oilers fan. A highlight for Diane were the annual family vacations in Penticton, BC. She will be remembered as a loving, giving, caring soul. She was a straight shooter with a big heart, quick wit & a humorous nature.
Diane was predeceased by her parents, sister Pat, brothers-in-law, Jack, Terry & Tom.
Diane is survived by her siblings. Sister Lana & family – Tara (Gary) Tryggvi, Signy & Trystan, Wendy (Albert) Addyson, Samantha & Max; sister Deb (Hank) & family – Kirk (Roey) Sander, Ryan (Shauna) Kora, Courtney (Paul); brother Bob (Laurie) & family – Skylar (Kolten) Rayna & Jack, Tayler (Alexei); sister Kelly & family – Kitson, Melissa (Mike) – Korben, Drake & Kira, Katelyn (Chris) Kadyn & Jack; Don (Val) & family – Jamie (Elmarie) Noah & Emma, Lance (Katie) & Myles.
There will be a family celebration of Diane’s life in Penticton, BC on Sept 24th, 2022.
My heartfelt condolences to all of you I so remember Diane with the biggest smile and heart ❤️ My memories of her when I would go with my daughter to see my mom (Rose) when they worked at College Plaza for lunch and she always joined us. We used to tease each other about whose name was better hers with a single N or mine with a double N. Again cherish your beautiful memories of her as she is at peace now and watching over all of you daily ❤️
Until we meet again, it’s not goodbye, it’s I’ll see you later. Love you with my whole heart my aunt. I have you with me forever, protecting my kids from above. Thank you for your love and sacrifices. I know heaven is a beautiful place because they have you xo

Diane… you are missed already. You were very loved and respected. You were there so unconditionally for so many. I cherish our last visit. Watch over all your loved ones.

Diane, you will be forever in my thoughts. I thought and communicated with you even when I was away for 5 months. I had hoped and prayed that you would get better, however that didn’t happen. You were a very kind, and caring person and will be missed by many. I extend my deepest sympathy to all in the family. Rest in eternal peace my friend.

Once in a blue moon, if you’re lucky, you get to meet someone like Diane. The kind of person that makes everything just a little bit better.
Your smile lit up the room, and ended up shining especially bright just as our light started to dim. What a special gift.

Hi Diane, you were the best roommate a guy could have..We had a short friendship you and I ..Here we were sitting in the room us both with larynectomies our white boards and erasable pens communicating with each other..Diane I enjoyed your company immensely..keep telling all your funny stories and keep smiling…Lo and I will miss you deeply my new friend….
None of you know me, but I met Diane for a couple hours in a campground in Wyoming in 1967!! We exchanged address and stayed in contact all this time. When she was engaged in the 70s she asked me to stand up in her wedding. We wrote and exchanged pictures of kids and nieces and nephews. Diane’ s Mom died within days of my Dad passing. When we found this out we talked about how we could introduce our parents; they were widowed way too early, loved to travel, loved family and loved fun. All this and we had never physically met again. Once Facebook came on the scene, we could see more pictures and sometimes chat online. We were amazed how alike we saw the world. When we hit our 60s we vowed to see each other if only once; perhaps on a cruise or in Chicago or Edmonton. Then Covid and Cancer hit and everything went on hold. I am sad I will never again receive a letter or picture from my old “pen pal”, yes, that is what we called it in the 60s. I know she was special because few people continue a relationship with someone they met when they were 13! I will think of her often! Know she loved all of you tremendously!
What can one say about Diane. Such a wonderful sole and a heart of gold. She and I kept each other sane when we worked together. If you had her back, she’d always have yours. She was so full of life and oozed personality. I miss our talks, our laughs, our shares of family and friends. When I think of her, as I do so very often, all I can see is her fabulous smile and contagious laugh. I will miss you my dear, dear friend. My heartfelt thoughts to the family she loved so dearly.
