Olga SOYCHUK

It is with heavy hearts and incredible sadness that we say goodbye to our beloved Olga Soychuk, who passed away following a lengthy and difficult battle with cancer on October 11, 2021 at the age of 48 years.

Olga was born in Kam’yanets-Podil’s’kyi, Ukraine on May 25, 1973. She received a degree in engineering, but dedicated her life to raising her three children – Vseslav, Mariya, and Alexander. She grew up and spent her 20s in a village, however at 32 she moved to Toronto, and later on to Edmonton.

When Olga was young, she learned to knit, sew, and bake. She loved it. No birthday would go without a home-made cake. As she got older she rarely had the time for it but still did it when she had the chance.

Olga was a woman of strong character. She raised three children while running a household. But she would always make time to bring her kids to their events, which she did with passion and grace. She loved to travel with her kids at least once a year and take them to new places.

Olga’s greatest passion was the wellbeing of her friends and family. She loved to catch up with family and friends as often as she could, be it over the phone or over a cup of tea, to make sure they were doing well. She would give sound advice, but more importantly, she was able to listen.

Being a devout Christian, Olga attended mass regularly and was mindful in her prayers for the wellbeing of family and friends. Olga made important times of the year special for her family. The wafting smell of roast beef on New Years, the twelve meals on Christmas, and the excitement of painting Easter Eggs on Easter will forever be cherished.

She didn’t get any prestigious titles.

She didn’t earn any high rankings

She didn’t change the world

But she was our world

A Divine Liturgy will take place Thursday, October 14, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s Orthodox Cathedral.
