Kyla Brittny STEIN

With profound sorrow and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Kyla Brittny Stein, who left this world far too soon on June 20, 2025, at the age of 35.

A radiant light in the lives of so many, Kyla was a woman of unwavering strength, remarkable kindness, and timeless beauty — both inside and out.

Kyla will be fondly remembered by her loving husband Cory Telnes, father Doug Stein and his partner Arlene, mother Sharon Stein, sister Alexa Stein and her husband Houston and nephew Hayden, as well as grandmother Shirley Radowits and Ron. Kyla was also treasured by her aunts and uncles, cousins and many friends as well as work colleagues at the Government of Alberta.

Kyla was born in Edmonton and raised in Beaumont. From toddler to a young girl, she loved spending time at Nana Shirleys’, having sleepovers, and picnics at the Thorsby creek.

She graduated from École Secondaire Beaumont Composite High School in 2007. At her grade 9 school graduation ceremony, she was noted as the student, “always having fun”.

Her first jobs during high school were at Old Navy, Company’s Coming Cookbooks, and Starbucks.

She enjoyed going to visit and stay over at Auntie Verna’s in Drayton Valley, and watch her cousins, Ryan and Chads’ hockey games, as well as cousin Tara’s dance recitals.

At the age of 17, she moved to Edmonton to study at McEwan University, where she received a Human Resources Management Diploma in 2009. Soon after, she received a Bachelor of Mgmt from the University of Lethbridge in 2011 where she became a Certified Human Resources Professional.

Kyla met her husband, Cory in 2019. Their first date at Odd company led to an instant connection, where they rarely spent a day apart since then. They got married in 2021 and lived happily with their dog Arlo.

Kyla had a deep love for travelling that started in Grade 10 with a class trip to Italy. She travelled to places like Vancouver every year, San Francisco, San Diego, Chicago, Mexico many times, Nashville, Austin, New Orleans. Her last trip was to Phoenix in February 2025, to visit with dear family Aunt Barb, Ken and cousins Brandon and Bria.

In 2014, Kyla was diagnosed with brain cancer where she underwent surgery. Her cancer diagnosis returned in 2016 and she again underwent surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatments. In August 2024, her tumour returned and so did her fighting spirit.

On May 30th, Kyla entered into hospice care.

The family wishes to send special thank you to the staff at Westview Hospice Care and the community palliative care team. As well, oncologist Doctor Kelvin Young.
