John Calvin SYMES
It is with profound sadness that the family of the late John Calvin Symes announce his passing on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at the age of 66, after a long battle with kidney disease and heart issues in Edmonton, Alberta. He was surrounded by his sons and family during his final days. Calvin was born in Burgeo, Newfoundland, to Lucy and John Symes.
His sons Stephen (Angie) Symes, Sammy (Elyse) Symes and Cory (Melissa) Symes, grandchildren Ameah, Kasen, Brodie, Boden, Paisley, and Annalissa Symes, siblings Ida (Roland) Simms, Gladys, Lorraine (George) Ereaut, Ruth (Glen) Porter, Keith (Glenda) Symes, Dennis (Cindy) Symes, and Darlene (Paul) Peddle, sister-in-law Brenda, brothers- and sisters-in-law George (Linda), Gerald (Gloria), Hubert, Caroline (John), Eva (Ray), Lucy (Clayton), Lora (Ward), Madge (Reg), Bernice, and sister-in-law Meta, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and endless friends, will mourn his passing.
He is predeceased by his wife Doris Symes; parents, Lucy and John Symes; his sister, Shirley Simms; his niece, Debbie Simms; his brother, Clyde Symes; his mother- and father-in-law, Pearl and Samuel MacDonald; and his brothers-in-law, John MacDonald and Donald Simms.
Calvin was a kind and loving man who cherished his family especially his grandchildren (he would light up when any of them entered the room) and close friends. He grew up with a great passion for hunting, fishing, and anything outdoors. He loved music, dancing, watching the Montreal Canadiens and his pets Pippy and Abby. He always had a sense of humour and enjoyed a good laugh. He held a special place in his heart for his hometown of Burgeo.
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
