May She Fly High.
It is with a heavy heart that we share the ending of this chapter and the peaceful transition from this life of Lynda Appleyard- our mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. Lynda passed away peacefully at Misericordia Community Hospital, Edmonton Alberta, surrounded by her family, on Monday, September 28, 2026.
Lynda Marie Appleyard (née May) of St. Albert, Alberta, formerly of Comox, British Columbia, was in her 80th year. Beloved wife of the late Frank Appleyard (2018), Lynda was the loving mother of Christine Appleyard of Edmonton and cherished grandmother of Taija Graham and Seth Graham. She was the loving stepmother to Debbie Appleyard Wright of Peterborough, Ontario and the beloved grandmother to KateLyn Wright. A loved grandmother to Aurora Graham of Edmonton. An adored adopted mother to Sheila and David Coe and treasured grandmother to Destiny Tremblay, Maddy Coe and Bailey Coe. She will be deeply missed by her sister Mary Bowler (Bill) of Sauble Beach, Ontario, and her brother Grant May (Brigitte) of Markdale, Ontario. Lynda will also be fondly remembered by her nieces, nephew, great-niece, and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and sister Beth Love (John).
The firstborn of Donald and Evelyn May, Lynda was born in Stratford, Ontario, October 4, 1946. She spent her early school years in Paris, Ontario, before the family moved to Markdale, where she continued her elementary and secondary education. Lynda later attended Stratford Teachers’ College. During this time, she met the love of her life, Frank, and they were married on June 29, 1968 at Annesley United Church in Markdale.
Lynda and Frank relocated to Calgary, where their daughter, Christine, was born. In their later years, they settled in Comox, British Columbia, where they enjoyed retirement and the joy of becoming grandparents.
Lynda was artistic and creative, finding joy in spinning and weaving intricate fabrics, crafting, and painting. In her later years her favorite pastimes were to be out and about enjoying nature and playing euchre twice a week with her friends and fellow seniors. She will be remembered for her cheerful spirit, loving nature, wisdom, and grace, and for the warmth and beauty she brought to the lives of those around her. She will be missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held on October 9th at the St Albert Royal Canadian Legion Branch 271, 6 Tache Street, from 1pm – 3pm.
