Greta Lauree BURDETT
Greta Lauree Burdett
July 25, 1939 – April 16, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the loss of Greta Lauree Burdett (née Stewart), a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Born July 4th, 1939 alongside her twin sister Donna, (as to who was first, we’ll never know), Lauree lived a rich and fulfilling life that was dedicated to helping others and making the world a better place.
A world traveler and curious soul, it was upon her “working holiday” in New Zealand, that she met her future, and lifetime husband, John (William) Burdett.
Lauree pursued a career in nursing, where she excelled as an Emergency Room nurse. Her empathetic nature made her a comforting presence for countless patients and families throughout her career.
Lauree was a dynamic thinker, a voracious reader, and a woman who loved to travel to warmer places. She possessed a keen and dry sense of humor that she shared with all who had the privilege of knowing her. Lauree was deeply devoted to her family and cherished the close bonds she forged with her friends from nursing school, many of which lasted a lifetime.
While Lauree experienced the pain of losing her twin sister earlier this year, her years of nursing had taught her to view death as a natural part of life, but looked forward to seeing her again.
She embraced the joy of living and held esteem for every person she met. Her sharp observations rang through everything she did, making her a remarkable human being in an often-chaotic world of ER Nursing.
As we reflect on Lauree’s life, we remember her love for travel, hiking, and camping, as well as her impeccable sense of style. Her family and friends will forever treasure the memories of her wit, wisdom, and compassion.
Lauree leaves behind her loving husband of 56 years, John, who will miss her dearly.
She also leaves her two sons, Robert and Stewart, as well as extended family members Michelle and Don from Vernon, and Michelle’s children, Aaron, Billie, and Michael.
Her presence will be deeply missed by her surviving family, lifelong friends, and all those whose lives she touched.
While we may mourn the absence of Lauree’s voice and physical presence, we take comfort in knowing that her spirit lives on in the countless stories and cherished memories she leaves behind. Her influence on each of our lives will be felt for years to come, reminding us of the extraordinary woman she was and the impact she had on those around her.
May Lauree’s beautiful soul rest in peace, and may her legacy of love, humor, and service continue to inspire us all.

My condolences to John and family. Lauree had such a good sense of humour , I recall some of our nursing class of 1960 going on a bus trip to Pasu farms for lunch. We met at a parking lot in Calgary and when we were all on the bus, leaving the parking lot, the bus driver stopped the bus and announced that someone had left their car running. It was Lauree’s, what hoot, and a great start to our class reunion..
I will miss her and her comments on Facebook. This Friday, May 1, 2025 some of our class will be attending the last annual banquet of the Calgary General Hospital. it is also 65 years ago that we, class of 1960 graduated.
Lauree, you will be missed.
My sincere condolences. Lauree and I were CGH classmates and bonded not only through nursing but fellow Saskatchewanites from the proximity of Stewart Valley and Clearwater Lake.
I remember Lauree’s gorgeous long hair she wore in a bun. I remember her sparkle and the best smile ever. We were always going to get together, but life kept us busy. It is wonderful to hear about Laureen’s adventures and the pictures are so special. RIP old friend.
