CAIRNS, Patrick, Andrew Rene
June 13th, 1951 – May 16th, 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patrick Cairns at the age of 74. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Silvia, his children Robert (Annette), Stephen (Jolene) and Jennifer (Chad) and his six grandchildren Grace, Jack, Zach, Remy, Claire and Cole. He is survived by his sister Anita, brother Michael (Liz), brother John and his sister Andrea, his brother-in-law, friend and coworker Mike (JoAnn) as well as many nieces and nephews and other family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Francoise Friquet Degive Cairns and Dr. Andrew Cairns.
Pat was born, grew up and lived all his life in Edmonton where he went to school, married and raised his three children in their small Glenora home. He was extremely proud of all of his children and his grandchildren that gave him great joy. He worked for 44 years for AltaSteel as a Millwright and was a proud member and participant of the Steel Workers Union.
Over the years life was busy with 3 children and a variety of activities and yearly travels with their motorhome which Pat loved to drive – family vacations took them as far west as Salt Spring Island, as far south as the Mexican border and as far east as Toronto and Niagara Falls. There were many adventures along the way. Eventually the motor home was parked permanently at the lake where Pat enjoyed his time with family and friends, playing some golf and enjoying many fun nights around the campfire. Years later Pat and Silvia travelled the world by plane, train and boat to over 20 countries. Pat would have said these were the best of times!
Pat requested that there be no formal funeral service. We invite anyone that would like to join us and share in a celebration of Pat’s life on Wednesday June 10th at 1PM at the Viktoria Soccer Club at – 14025 -142 Street.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the University Hospital Foundation.
Thank you to all who cared for Pat with patience, kindness and dedication during his difficult last days in hospital and hospice.
