Victor Babatunde CHEKE

In Loving Memory of Victor Babatunde Cheke: A Life of Purpose and Passion – A Celebration of His Life and Faith. Victor’s Legacy Lives On

In the twilight of our sorrow, we announce the heavenly homecoming of our beloved Victor Babatunde Cheke, a child of God, a shining star in the firmament of life. His sudden departure has left us with a gaping void, a chasm of grief that echoes with the whispers of memories past. Our hearts are heavy with sorrow, our eyes dim with tears, and our souls are pierced with the painful reality of his absence.

Born on March 29, 1980 in Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria, Victor Babatunde Cheke’s life was a sacred tapestry, woven from threads of love, kindness, and compassion. Victor, 44 years returned to his heavenly home to be with the Lord on January 15, 2025, after an illness.

Mr. Victor’s father was Late Pa Charles Cheke, and his mother is Mrs. Grace Adedamola Cheke. Victor hailed from Warri town from Warri-South Local Government in Delta State, Nigeria. Victor was from a polygamous family and had many siblings.  For his high school, Victor Babatunde Cheke attended Government College, Ikorodu, Lagos State, Nigeria from 1991 to 1996. As well, Victor attended Lagos State Polytechnic, Lagos, from year 1998 to 2000, where he excelled with flying colours and bagged a National Diploma in Chemical Engineering.  Subsequently, Mr. Victor Babatunde Cheke obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Lagos State, Nigeria in 2005/2006 academic session. Victor also took some courses in some Canada institutions upon arriving in Canada.

Victor was a dynamic man with enviable intelligence and warm personalities. In addition, he was very hardworking and had great zeal to excel in everything he did. Victor worked in organizations like TotalFinaElf, Halliburton, and many other organizations both locally in Nigeria and Canada.

Victor Babatunde Cheke’s heart beat with a deep devotion to God, and his soul was afire with a passion for justice, mercy, and humility. As a faithful disciple of Christ, Victor’s life was a testament to the transformative power of God’s love. He lived his life with purpose, with passion, and with a deep commitment to serving others.

Throughout his life’s journey, Victor’s love for God was evident in every aspect of his life. He was a faithful worshipper, a diligent student of the Word, and a passionate advocate for the gospel. His faith was his rock, his guiding light, and his source of strength. He clung to the promise of Hebrews 13:8, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever,” and he lived his life with the confidence that God’s love and presence would forever be with him.

Victor’s love for humanity was equally remarkable. He had a heart of gold, a listening ear, and a helping hand. He was a friend to the friendless, a voice for the voiceless, and a champion of justice and mercy. His compassion knew no bounds, and his generosity was a blessing to countless lives. He embodied the spirit of Matthew 25:31-46, where Jesus teaches us that our love for Him is measured by our love for our neighbors.

Victor was very independent in nature and could not be easily influenced or controlled by others in matters of opinion, conduct, etc., and he stood firm on issues and in whatever he believed in. Victor was also very organized, eloquent and articulate, and an excellent communicator par excellence. Victor loved to discuss religion, politics, engineering, sports, current affairs, sciences, technology, etc. He was well versed in all subjects, and could engage in any subject of discussion, basically. Victor also loved to cook and eat good meals. Up to the time of his passing, he never joked with cooking and eating good meals.

Benevolence is a supreme virtue, and the essence of benevolence is to increase the happiness of others just as our Lord, Jesus Christ Loves the world. Thus, Victor also symbolized balance, fairness, trust and benevolence. In the silence of our grief, we hear the whispers of Victor’s love, kindness, compassion, empathy, his laughter, and his legacy. We remember his unwavering commitment to fighting for a better world, his unshakeable faith in God’s goodness, and to re-echo his unrelenting passion for justice. Victor was very vocal and not afraid to call a spade a spade, and what it is really is. More importantly, Victor just wanted others around him to be happy. We recall his infectious smile, his warm hugs, and his love, and generous heart. These are his values and traits, and memories he created thus, are what we can hold on to now and savor!  We also cherish the memories of our time with him, and we hold fast to the promise of Revelation 21:4, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

Though his earthly journey was fleeting, Victor’s legacy will continue to inspire generations to come. His love for God, his family, and humanity was a beacon of hope in a world often shrouded in darkness. His selflessness, friendship, and generosity were a reflection of the divine love that dwelled within him. As we reflect on his life, we are reminded of the words of 1 Corinthians 13:13, “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”

As we bid Victor a dignified farewell, we take comfort in the promise of eternal life, where love, joy, and peace reign supreme. We know that Victor’s spirit has been ushered into the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ, where he will bask in the radiance of God’s glory. We are consoled by the thought that Victor’s suffering has ended, that his pain has been alleviated, and that he is now experiencing the fullness of joy and peace that only God can provide.

As we say goodbye, we also hold fast to the promise of 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14, “Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep, or to grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.” We know that Victor’s life was not in vain, that his love and legacy will continue to inspire us, and that we will be reunited with him in eternity.

May Victor’s soul rest in perfect peace, enveloped in the loving arms of our Lord Jesus Christ. May his memory be a blessing to us all, inspiring us to live lives of purpose, passion, and service to others. May his legacy continue to shine like a beacon in the darkness, guiding us on our own journey.

Adieu, Victor!
