Gerald James GAGNON

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of our father, grandfather, brother, uncle and our friend Gerald Gagnon with family by his side on December 30, 2023 at the age of 81.

Gerald will be lovingly remembered by his children Colleen, James (Anna), Fred, (son-in-law Mike), numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends. He is predeceased by his wife Judy, his daughter Shawna, his parents as well as his brothers and sisters.

He was born in Wayne, Michigan, he spent his childhood raised in Edmonton, AB, with his four siblings. It was here he settled in with the love of his life Judy and their four children.

His life was full of happiness, passion and extraordinary experiences, including his hard work to become a millwright, his creative talent for baking beautiful cakes for family & friends, the endless hours he dedicated to working with victims of violence, the selflessness and compassionate support he gave a young boy by sponsoring him and to several charities including the homeless and poor.

Gerald was a man of great Christian faith who had an unwavering love and belief in Christ. He proudly served as a 4th Degree member of Knights of Columbus.

He always looked forward to bringing family and friends together, putting smiles on their faces with his teasing sense of humor. He loved entertaining family with Judy while they played cards in to the wee hours of the night, and spending countless hours at the table completing puzzles.

Gerald will be profoundly missed.

    Hi Colleen,

From Norman & I, we would like to express our sincerest condolences to the Gagnon Family in the passing of our Dear Uncle Gerry.

Uncle Gerald to me has been the sweetest man and a very helpful uncle of my life. Since my brother Rodney & I were little we used to always go to stay at his place to play with our cousins. He used to come and babysit us kids when we were very little to help out our mom and dad to give them a chance to go out for a change. Uncle like my mom loved to play cards and since I was able to be in Edmonton for surgeries, I would go with mom to play cards with him. He ended up getting to live in the same lodge with my mom which she really enjoyed. So when ever I was in Edmonton, I’d get to play cards with him and mom which I love card playing too, especially hand and foot. He had such a kind soul and his faith was very important to him. At the lodge him and mom were living in, we used to go to the Sunday services where they would offer a little service and communion. We have shared our believes and he was so kind to give me the audio of the St. Faustina Diary. I listened to this so much I started wearing out the dvds. I am going to recopy them so I can get a second copy of them to start listening to them again. I was able due to the love of my husband, to be able to go to Edmonton Dec 1-11, 2023 to be able to see my uncle Gerald since they believed he had phenmonia and wasn’t sure how long he would be around. So I went and had 4-beautiful visits with him where we laughed and talked about things from his and my mom’s childhood. This was so special to me and I will never forget my time with him. Love you Uncle and miss you and will always pray for you. Love you Uncle Gerald, Lisa & Norman Claffey

    POEM;
To the sweetest uncle I could have ever asked for.

Uncle Gerry has always been my favourite uncle since I was very little.
He always would bring my brother & I over to visit with our cousins. uncle since I was very little.
Uncle & Aunty were always good to us and we always had fun but most of all.
This memory will always be there to remember and to and to recall.

His heart is sweet and kind and very loving to his family and friends.
I have always looked up to Uncle Gerry and will always love him.
I loved playing cards with him and my mom like so many times.
And I will always have these memories of this story in my mind.

His loving kind words that he would share with me I’ll not forget.
As we shared our faith of God’s impact on each our lives.
This union of our hearts for the love of our creator was strong.
That I look forward to seeing him in heaven and not too long.

In life it is sometimes hard to find that person that touches you so.
But in this case I can truly say that he has made a big impact on me.
So rest in peace sweet Uncle Gerry and be in God’s good grace.
For we all miss you so and look to see in heaven your sweet face.
