Reginald Gordon GALBRAITH
Reginald Gordon Galbraith, age 79, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2025 in Edmonton, Alberta with his loving wife and daughter by his side.
Born on November 5, 1945, in Nipawin, Saskatchewan, to Ione and Stewart Galbraith. Reg was the eldest of 7 children: Arnold, Enid, Gloria, Denis, Bonny and Dan.
Reg is survived by his wife of almost 50 years Margaret (Peggy) Galbraith, his daughter Amber (Aj) Galbraith and grandson Logan Galbraith. He was predeceased by his mother, father, brother Arnold and sister Enid.
Reg’s family moved often during his childhood. They lived in the High Level area of Alberta, along the Alaska highway, and he often reflected on those early years as being full of challenges. As a young man, he worked on the pipelines in the summer and spent the winters in Saskatoon. It was there he met Peggy, who was working as a waitress at a pizza restaurant. He fondly remembered their meeting as “love at first sight.” They married four years later and celebrated nearly 50 years married (their 50th anniversary would have been August 16th, 2025).
Reg and Peggy did quite a bit of international travelling together. They have two homes in Ecuador, South America and would spend their winters there. It was one of Reg’s happy places. The Schuswap was another happy place, and he took great joy in being with family and friends on their homemade houseboat.
Together, they raised one child, Amber, who studied to become an anesthesiologist. Reg was endlessly proud of her and her accomplishments. He especially cherished the past eight years as a grandfather to Logan. Reg found great joy in their time together, whether it was playing games or passing along his love of fishing. He took pride in Logan’s curiosity and eagerness to learn, often remarking how much he saw of himself in his grandson.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Hematology Unit of the University of Alberta Hospital for their compassionate care.
Throughout his illness, Reg received many blood transfusions that greatly improved his quality of life. Please consider a donation to Canadian Blood Services.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Diabetes Canada.
At Reg’s request, no memorial service will be held.
