Emily-Ann Donna GODBY

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our precious daughter, EMILY-ANN DONNA GODBY at the age of 29. June 19, 1993 – January 07, 2023.

Emily was predeceased by her Grandparents Eva Baker (formerly Godby), Mervin Lien and Lorraine Reine. She is survived by her parents Sherri-Ann Godby (Lien) and Gavin Godby. Her grandfather Ensley Godby, along with her siblings Jackson Godby, Clair Hinther ( Glen Mason) and Matthew Hinther (Annie). Her niece Ensleigh and nephews, Parker & Nolan. Along with many Uncles, Aunts and Cousins.

Emily was a very beautiful and talented young lady, with great ambition. Her writing skills were beyond exceptional. She loved writing stories as a child and as she grew older, her passion was poetry. Once in grade five she wrote a story and wanted to share it with her classmates. Her teacher proofread the story, then went to the office and told the principal about the story and how exceptional it was and asked that he come to listen to the story. The staff were so impressed with Emily’s writing skills that the school sponsored Emily to attend a weekend retreat at the Bennett Centre in Edmonton. As a small child she was involved with “Sunshine Generation” where she sang and performed for crowds around Sherwood Park.

Emily had a wonderful and silly sense of humor (just like her mom). She loved to laugh and make others laugh at her silly skits that she would record. Emily loved the video camera and still photography, a skill she inherited from her father Gavin and grandfather Ensley.

Emily grew up in Edmonton and Sherwood Park. She excelled in the Language Arts program at school. She graduated from Scona High School in Edmonton, where she received her diploma. There, she also met some wonderful classmates with whom she remained close friends until her passing. Ashley, Andra & Alexis were a huge part of Emily’s high school and adult life.

Emily was a loving and caring daughter, sister, cousin, niece and friend to many people. Growing up, she spent much of her time having playdates and sleepovers with her cousins Katie, Nicole, Laura, Christine & Meaghan. She was the Best sister EVER to Jackson. She made growing up fun for Jackson by entertaining him with her creativity and silliness. She was a wonderful role model for her little brother. She also enjoyed spending time by herself, where she was reflective of her life and composed her writings.

After high school, Emily was a nanny for a short while before trying her hand at waitressing. She started out as a dishwasher and persevered until she made her way up to Hostess, then waitress. After several years of waitressing, Emily once again returned to school, enrolling in a Legal Assistant Program.

Emily will always be remembered by friends and family as a “bright light” who was a joy to spend time with. Her smile would light up a room. Emily was a kind and compassionate old soul. She was the best baby, a happy go lucky toddler, funny & entertaining adolescent and a beautiful adult.

You are, and always will be, sadly missed our dear Miss Emily.

Forever 29. Forever in our memories. Forever in our hearts.

Hello friends and family of Emily my name is Chace, Emily and I met in the summer of 2022 when she was visiting Vancouver. We instantly locked eyes and grew fond of each other right away I knew in my heart there wouldn’t be another women in this world like her so I asked her to accompany my friends and I to the beach which she did. We spent the day together knowing she was scheduled to take a flight back to Edmonton that night and when she left it was a bitter sweet moment mostly because I knew in my heart I’d most likely see her again but also because I had to watch her leave. Over the next month or two we stayed in touch and got to know each other more, she opened up my eyes and heart to a whole world of love I never knew existed. She was instantly so kind to me, funny as well and the most beautiful women inside and out. I was very saddened to hear of her passing and I just wanted to send my condolences to her family and friends.

I won’t ever get to see you or hold you in my arms or talk for hours about life with you and I’ll never get to hear that beautiful laugh again but I’ll always carry you in my heart Emily, Forever rest in paradise guardian Angel. I love you and miss you so much already ❤️

    Until we meet again.
