Joseph HAAS

Joseph Haas
December 28, 1935 – July 2, 2025

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved father, Joseph Haas on July 2, 2025, in Edmonton, Alberta.

Joseph was born in the small village of Gasinci, Croatia, to Georg and Theresia. He spent his early years with his older brothers, Martin and Georg, his younger sister, Katharina, and later his half-sister, Maria. His childhood was marked by upheaval, loss and hardships of war, experiences that shaped his resilience and character. As a young man, Joseph and his brothers eventually found their way to Austria, reuniting with their father.

Gifted with a natural talent for craftsmanship—always measuring twice and cutting once—he pursued formal training in carpentry and began working in the building trades. With a strong work ethic and dreams of a better life, Joseph immigrated to Canada in 1958, first arriving in Quebec City, then Regina, before settling in Edmonton.

At the age of 26, he met Marie, a young woman living in the same apartment building. Their connection was immediate, and they were married in 1963. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, and purpose.

Joseph worked as a skilled carpenter with several construction firms and was an active member of the Carpenters’ Union. He had a deep passion for woodworking, spending countless hours in his workshop crafting furniture, cabinets, toys, and games for his children and grandchildren. His greatest pride was building the family’s lakeside home, where he and Marie later retired and created lasting memories with loved ones.

Generous with his time and talent, Joe was always ready to lend a hand, helping friends, family, and extended relatives with home projects and renovations. His craftsmanship, quiet strength, and warm presence will be deeply missed.

Joseph is survived by his three children, Karen Nord (Karl), Crystal Findling (Kevin), and Jeff (Bernice Garn), as well as his cherished grandchildren, Kennedy, Evan, Derik, and Cody, who will forever hold dear the moments spent with their beloved grandfather. Also, from Austria, mourning the loss of their Onkel Seppi, are Helga, Gerlinde, and Gabriela, along with many great nieces and great nephews, and his half-sister Maria and family.

We are grateful to the many friends and family who have shared kind words and fond memories of our father. Your support has brought comfort during this difficult time.

As per the family’s wishes, a small Celebration of Life will be held later this summer. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joseph’s memory may be made to Operation Smile Canada or the Cross Cancer Institute.

I never can’t believe that our uncle is gone.
We all loved his personality, his stories about his life, how proud he was, that he had a great family and a wonderful wife on his side.
He was so a positive man, he always said, that he had a Lot of luck in his Life.
Rest in heaven dear uncle on the side from aunt Marie.
    Unforgetable forever
