Marie Josephine HAAS

Marie Josephine Haas (nee Lund)

July 22, 1939 – March 9, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our family matriarch, Marie Haas on March 9, 2025, in Edmonton, Alberta.

Marie was born in Hardisty, Alberta to parents Elmer and Gisella and spent her formative years, along with her sister Carol and brother Lorne, on the farm in the Hughenden area. After graduation, she moved to Edmonton where she started work as a bank teller at the Toronto Dominion Bank.  A romance with a young man named Joseph, who lived in the same apartment building began, and they married in 1963. Marie loved to volunteer, garden, and sew. She enjoyed word games, puzzles and of course preparing massive family feasts.

Marie is survived by her loving husband Joseph, along with her children Karen Nord (Karl), Crystal Findling (Kevin) and son Jeff (Bernice Garn).  Grandchildren Evan, Kennedy, Derik, and Cody will dearly remember the time spent at their grandparents’ home in the city and especially their beautiful lakeside house.

The family wants to thank the friends and family who have reached out and shared so many wonderful memories and thoughts of Mom.

As per the family’s wishes, a small Celebration of Life will be held at a future date this spring. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Operation Smile Canada or the Heart & Stroke Foundation in her memory.

Sorry for your loss. May God provide you comfort during this difficult time. Treasure the wonderful memories with your mom.over the years. Your mom held a special place in my heart. As a kid, I was forced by Mom and Dad to go to all the family get togethers…birthdays, anniversarys, just cause etc. I am thankful they did that because it gave me an opportunity to get to know family. Your mom would always come and talk to me and include me, even though I was usually one of the only kids there. I feel blessed to have know her.

So sorry to hear about Marie. She was a lovely lady and I have many fond memories from my childhood spending time at the Haas’s home. Marie was always so welcoming and I was always offered some of her delicious baking or invited for meals, where many of the items were grown in her amazing huge garden. Hugs to the family, she will be so missed!

The generosity of this lovely woman started at a very early age for me at five. She welcomed me into her home and was the first of many mothers I’d have throughout life. The countless sleepovers she had to endure and always a home made meal be it breakfast, lunch or dinner. She made the BEST bread, and I wish I would have paid more attention and jotted down the recipe. Countless weekends at the lake house where I hold such cherished memories. I was lucky enough to spend a few Christmas’s with the family, and she always had money for us for the movie of the month. Countless drop offs at the roller rink and so many more memories. I know she leaves a massive hole for the family and for that my heart truly breaks. She was an absolute gem, and she will be dearly missed. Much love to the family. 💔
