Michael George HAMBLIN
On January 10th 2025, Michael George Hamblin passed of a heart attack. He was 73 years of age.
Our Dad was born March 7, 1951. As for his childhood, not much was ever said. We wish we knew more.
Michael had 4 children Crystal, Sean, Mary, now known as Rachel, and Shelley. We also had a family dog named Sundance.
We lived sometime in Hamilton Ontario we lived by the bay. Big ships came in there and had very loud horns sometimes. Dad had moved to Edmonton, Alberta about 6 months before we arrived. The move to Alberta was a for better life for his family, and it was.
We arrived in Edmonton on December 6, 1979. Dad had found a job doing insulation in houses, it wasn’t long before he mastered the job. He soon became the boss, to someone that trained him. Isn’t that right Greg Wiebe. LOL
Within one month we found a house across the street from a school, named Sherbrook. Dad would ask, how can I be late for school? I didn’t have a really good answer. He would shake his head and walk away. Then say, Charlotte, you need to deal with Crystal. He would also say Charlotte you need to deal with Shelley, or even Mary. Dad didn’t discipline us girls, he would discipline Sean being the only boy. He was kind and gentle with those he loved. He had a softness especially with the ladies. He never raised his voice to them, would protect them all.
In the year 1983 Dad had a dream to start his own towing company. Mike’s Towing was born. He had about 6 different trucks running. Starting with one truck of course, it wasn’t his color for sure, it was green. Then another truck, 1 ton, the green truck was painted white right away with red lettering. The business cards were printed, with a 23 1/2 service. His business was growing, then more trucks, flat deck, came along which could pull 2 vehicles, he loved that, more money. He changed the color of some tow trucks red, with white lettering. He added more trucks, one, his pride and joy was a blue and white 3 ton. Then he added a long-haul trailer for longer runs, more vehicles. He did get the city contract for 1 year. It was great for business. Another contract, Searail, was for the military. He would travel various places: Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia. He ran this business close to 30 years. hired friends and family. I worked there, my husband worked there, longtime friend Vince Fry, and many others. I couldn’t mention them all.
He would fix his own tow trucks until there was to many and had to hire a mechanic. He would still fix some, he enjoyed tinkering with vehicles. He always seemed to have a project with one or more vehicles, at any given time. His last place of employment was Think Green. He enjoyed working there.
Dad was raised by John Ball. Dad didn’t really know his family. Maybe that’s why he never talked about his childhood. He would have dreams about playing with a little girl with blonde hair. They were close in age. In 2019 he found this girl, now a woman, and his sister, her name was Heather Noble. Then he soon found out he was the oldest of 6 siblings. Their names are as follows:
Heather Noble, Donnie Mercer, Sue Cyr, Barry Trottier, Charmaine Trottier, and Michael Trottier. Sadly, he was too late to meet his mother, Joan Trottier. Some of them feel like they didn’t have enough time with their big brother.
