William Shane HUTCHISON

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of William “Shane” Hutchison, who passed away on February 11, 2026, in Devon, Alberta, at the age of 63.

Shane was born on August 2, 1962, in New Brunswick and grew up in Ottawa. Throughout his life, he pursued many careers, including his work with NORAD as a Tactical Supervisor with NAV Canada. He was an avid golfer, a lover of all sports, and someone who embraced every opportunity to stay active and engaged. For the past three years, Shane made Discovery Place Heights his home, and it was there that he lived the final chapter of his life. Residents and staff alike came to appreciate his humility, compassion, and warm presence. Shane cherished spending time at the Devon Lions Park Campground with friends and family, encouraging others to sing karaoke while he selected the perfect background music and cheered them on. He enjoyed visiting the Devon Legion, attending friends’ pig roasts, and sharing meals at Marci’s. Shane found joy in scooter rides with Ray, relaxing on his bench outside, and chatting with anyone who happened to pass by. He had a sharp ear for music, a contagious laugh, and a gift for storytelling. Many fondly remember him sitting on his bench, sharing stories and laughter with Stelle or any resident who stopped to visit.

Shane is lovingly remembered by his mother, Barbara; his sister, Vicki; and his beloved son, Ian Hutchison. He is also deeply missed by his best friend, Stelle, who welcomed Shane into her family, as well as by the many friends who quickly became like family—among them Terry, Stewart, Avery, Lorri, Brian, Kelly, Jason, Rose, Pete, Tanya, Wanda, and countless others whose lives he touched. Shane was predeceased by his father, William Hutchison.

Shane’s friends extend their heartfelt gratitude to all who offered him friendship, kindness, and companionship. He will be remembered as a wise, hardworking, and generous man who valued learning, connection, and the meaningful relationships he built throughout his life. His humor, warmth, and openness to new experiences will be deeply missed.

Cremation has taken place, and a private ceremony will be held at a later date.

Shane was like a ray of sunshine, she always greeted me with a smile. I met him while out riding my scooter and shared so many stories, good and bad. I know he will be watching over Stella and all his friends.

Shane was my cousin. I hadn’t seen him in several years but remember his good looks and striking smile. My heart goes out to my Aunt Barb, Vicki and of course Ian, Shane’s son. The loss of someone so young is always sad and difficult for those left behind.
