Jenny KACHKAR
It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved sister Jenny (Jeanette Joan) KACHKAR on March 30, 2023, at the age of 55.
Jenny was predeceased by her parents, Jean and Reneè Kachkar. She will be lovingly remembered by her surviving siblings: her sister Rima Coates, and her brothers Rami Kachkar (Beverly) and Richard Kachkar. Jenny also leaves behind her adored nieces Juliana, Johanna, Megan, and Cassandra, not to mention numerous friends and family who are deeply affected by her loss.
Jenny was born on May 10, 1967, in Edmonton, AB, Canada. She graduated from Archbishop O’Leary High School and completed marketing courses at Grant MacEwan College.
Jenny’s career started at the Mayfield Inn. Her dad managed the hotel and Jenny loved seeing the stars who came to perform. Jenny was working the switchboard at the Mayfield at age 12, and she was the youngest to take the hotel management course that her dad designed. She grew up knowing how to talk to people from all walks of life, and the stars were Jenny’s specialty–she treated them like real, everyday people, and valued them for themselves. In fact, many of them became lifelong friends.
Jenny left The Mayfield for The Fantasyland Hotel where she brought such events as Oscar Night, Cops for Cancer, Valentine’s Wedding and many others. Jenny then ventured out on her own, creating The Kachkar Group, producing The Alberta Health Show and other productions. She used her exceptional skills in advertising and promotion to help build the success of numerous local start-ups, as well as small to large businesses in Edmonton.
Despite her own health problems, Jenny soldiered on. She was the primary caregiver for her mom in her last years and she worried over her nieces and siblings’ health too. Extrovert that she was, though, she was not about to sit at home when there was so much living to be done. She was always thinking of new, exciting things that might interest people work-wise. She was enthusiastic and positive and saw the best in people. And when someone in the community passed away, Jenny would be there to mourn with the family and look after the details that she had–sadly–had to deal with so many times before when her father, mother, aunts, uncles, and cousins passed away. Her empathy pulled her out of her own suffering where she would go, instead, to comfort others.
Jenny never said no when anyone asked for help, ideas, or someone to talk to. She had the cutest, champagne-bubbles kind of laugh, she told the best stories, and she had the sweetest soul.
A prayer service will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 9850 148 Street, on April 12, 2023, at 7:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Cathedral Basilica, 10044 113 Street NW, on April 13, 2023, at 10:00 a.m.
Jenny was loved by all in the media, radio, TV and advertising.
Her dad Jean (John) was a prince of a man.”
