Joseph passed away in his 89th year, in Edmonton, Alberta. He leaves to mourn his passing his brother Nick Kristolovich, stepdaughter Taryn (Vito) Pocai, stepsons Darcy (Dayle) Hernblad, and Derek Hernblad. He was Pappa Joe to granddaughters Roxanne (Eric) Holiday, Roger Pocai, Nichelle (Michael) Dam, Jenna (Alyssa) Day, and greatgrandchildren Lochlyn Davidson, Madison Cooper, Avery Pocai, Kyler Dam. Layla Dam and Jamie Day. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Carole and stepson Daryl (Samantha).
Joseph was born in Sandy Lake, Manitoba. He was the youngest of 15 children. He left the family farm as a young man to work at Eaton’s Warehouse in Winnipeg, Manitoba before finding his way North to begin a career in the trucking industry. He lived in Fort Smith, NT for a number of years before moving to Yellowknife, NT where he met his wife, Carole. The love of the north kept him there until 2002 when he retired and moved to Alberta. His love of the north was immense. He loved the people, the work, the fishing, and most of all his family. He remained close to his brothers and sisters throughout the years and to all his nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. He was loved by all of his large extended family.
We would like to extend our deep appreciation to his doctors, nurses and the compassionate care team at Shasta Care who became like family to us. They listened to his jokes and kept him smiling all the time.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place at his request. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice or to the Alzheimer Society.
Please raise a glass and say cheers to a special man whose heart touched us all and deserves to be celebrated.
