Christine Ha Fun LEE

Christine was born in Ningpo, near Shanghai in 1945, and moved to Hong Kong at the age of 4. She was the second of 6 children with older sister Virginia, 3 younger sisters Cecilia, Elizabeth and Teresa, and a little brother Vincent.

After secondary school at True Light School in HK, she attended Teacher’s College. She started her long teaching career at Ng Wah Primary School, where she was well loved by many students who remained in touch with her till now.

Christine married David, whom she met in her teenage years, in 1970. Their daughter Joyce was born in 1975. The family moved to Toronto, Canada in 1987. Christine, through her loyalty, kindness and generosity, intentionally maintained her old friendships from Hong Kong, and formed many new friendships in Toronto. In their retirement, Christine and David enjoyed many fun times with their friends traveling, playing Mah Jong, exercising and having dim sum.

Christine was a devoted mother to Joyce, and taught her the importance of kindness, loyalty, friendship and gratitude by example. She was Joyce’s favorite shopping buddy, and always offered a safe shelter for Joyce during life’s inevitable storms.

She welcomed Jeremy to the family since Joyce began dating him in 2003, and married him in 2008. She loved Jeremy and treated him to much delicious Chinese food through the years. She was well loved by Jeremy, as well as by his parents Gary and Mary. The in-laws enjoyed many Christmases at home, and vacations abroad in Hawaii and Mexico.

She especially showered Joyce with motherly love through nutritious food when she was pregnant and after she gave birth to granddaughter Arianna in 2014. Christine enjoyed every moment she spent with Arianna, and was so proud to show her off to her friends. In her last days, Christine most wanted to have dim sum with Arianna. Arianna would definitely miss Popo’s fried noodles and her hugs.

Christine was treasured and loved by David, who in many small ways, cared for her till the end. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2020. She was the devoted caregiver for him after his stroke in 2018, and was still constantly concerned for his wellbeing after she fell ill herself.

The move to Edmonton in 2022 to follow Joyce and Jeremy was difficult for her and David as they had to leave their beloved community in Toronto. They were welcomed by the Evangel Baptist Church, and the brothers and sisters shared many meals and prayers with them. In her last days, the church community showered her with love and care in every way possible, and she was tremendously grateful.

Christine will be dearly missed by her family, friends and students. Her spirit and love will live on in the many lives she touched, and we look forward to meeting again in our heavenly home.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 28th at 5:00 p.m. at Evangel Baptist Church, 1204 Ellwood Road SW.
