He is predeceased by his parents Nick and Olga Leskowski, his sister Sonya Bilinski, and uncle Joseph Shelestynski.
David was born in Saskatoon, on June 20th, 1955, where he spent his early years. He moved to Thunder Bay after the birth of his children, relocating to a lakeside property in Wabamun, Alberta, later in life.
David was a builder from the age of four, building and painting with his father, Nick. Over the years he designed and built the log cabin he raised his family in, coordinated home construction for Habitat for Humanity, and closed out his career in public housing maintenance. He held a degree in renewable resource technologies, and loved his work in forestry, offshore fisheries, and environmental protection. He was skilled and self-taught in many other trades including professional sound and security systems, insurance, telecommunications, and mechanics of all kinds. David was an innovative thinker, contributing new designs in fiber optic technology and building his own biogas digester providing renewable energy to farms in Ontario.
David also had the gift of the gab and was active in politics throughout his life – running for federal office in Ontario, contributing constitutional writings federally, and remaining politically active through boards and public speaking in Alberta.
David loved spending time in nature and tinkering on his many automotive projects. He was a prolific home mechanic with a yard full of cars, boats, motorcycles, tools, and spare parts.
David will be remembered by dear friends far and wide for his helping spirit, his gift of conversation, and his loon call.
A celebration of life and his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ was held on Sunday July 12th in Spruce Grove, Alberta, followed by a private internment in Glenbush, Saskatchewan.
