Evelyn “Gerry” Geraldene Lewis

We mourn the passing of Evelyn Geraldine Lewis, known as Gerry, who passed peacefully on June 15, 2026, at the age of 88. She touched many lives and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Gerry was born on September 27, 1937.  She was born in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba and was one of 6 children born into the family of Burnett and Evelyn Walker.

Bob (Sue), Dennis (Sharon), Ted (Adele), Murray (Charlotte), Margaret (Chris). She moved to Alberta at the age of 16.

She was predeceased by her parents Burnett and Evelyn Walker, her brother Robert and her sister Margaret, Brother-in-law Chris, Sister-in-law Adele, and Granddaughter Julie.

Gerry and Gordon first met at a restaurant in Jasper Place and right away started dating. Gerry and Gordon were married in Edmonton on December 17, 1955.  They were married for 70 years. They had  5 children together, Bill (Janet),  Jean (Clay), Bernie (Karen), Carla (Frank), and Donna (Bruce) and had 12 grandchildren – Michael (Amanda), Leanne (Robert), Trent, Trisha, Trevor (Sarah),  Christina, Jessica, Danielle (John), Nicole (Alex), Ashley (Justin), Justin (Bernadette)  Sara (Cody) and 18 great grandchildren – Evan, Blake, Jaxson, Taylor, Jaclynn, Mayia, Evan, Kaiden, Brayleigh, Tristen, Summer, Seianna, Shae-Lynn, Devin, Leo, Mckenna, Hailey, Tanner. Along with numerous Nieces and Nephews.

Gerry loved reading, knitting, music, gardening, laughing and playing jokes on people, visiting with family and friends and relaxing in the back yard.

Her greatest love was playing Bingo, a joy that stayed with her through most of her adult life. It began as something special she shared with her mom — the two of them side by side, laughing, talking, and always splitting their winnings no matter who got the lucky card. Later, she brought Gord into the fun, and before long Bingo became their daily ritual. Most afternoons and evenings, you could find the two of them at the bingo hall, enjoying the game, the company, and the simple happiness of being together. When she wasn’t playing bingo you could find her volunteering her time working bingo and casinos.

Summer meant camping in Kelowna, a place she adored returning to year after year. The more family who joined, the happier she was — laughter, shared meals, and long sunny days were her idea of a perfect vacation.

In the winter months, she loved visiting her siblings in the United States and spending time with her parents, who wintered in Havasu City, Arizona. Those trips were filled with connection, stories, and the comfort of being surrounded by the people she loved.  In later years, she enjoyed going to Reno and endless bus trips to Wendover.

She loved cooking for family, especially for holidays and was a passionate baker who found her greatest joy in the kitchen, especially at Christmastime. Every year, as soon as November arrived, she would begin her holiday baking — cookies, tarts, nuts and bolts, and countless other treats — filling her home with the smells of butter, spice, and tradition so that each of her children and grandchildren would have a taste of her love to take home.

Gerry retired early from a long career at Safeway.  Once retired she looked after her grandkids. taking them to school and home for lunch time.  Once Gord retired, they would spend a few weeks of the summer walking to JP Pool with the grandkids for their swimming lessons each day.

Gerry was a long, proud member of the Order of the Royal Purple Lodge No. 22 and Past Honored Royal Lady.

Her love and kindness with family and friends will be cherished and forever missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held July 31, 2026, from 1:00 – 3:00 pm at Laurier Heights Community League, 14405 85 Ave NW Edmonton, Alberta.
