Gloria Marion LINDSTROM

Gloria (Strumecki) Lindstrom

With profound sadness, but immense gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the passing of Gloria Lindstrom on June 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, storyteller, and family historian, Gloria was affectionately known as “Glu-oria” for her remarkable ability to bring people together. She welcomed everyone with kindness, wisdom, humour, and unwavering support, serving as the heart of her family and the foundation of countless cherished relationships.

Born to Ludwig and Nellie Strumecki, Gloria grew up in Alberta’s Ukrainian pioneer community. After losing her parents in a tragic accident at the age of fifteen, she developed a resilience and appreciation for family that would guide her throughout her life.

Gloria built a life defined by love, generosity, curiosity, and strength. She shared a lifelong partnership with her beloved husband, Douglas Lindstrom, creating a home filled with love, laughter, hospitality, and adventure.

She was a devoted mother to Troy Van Helvert, Andrew Lindstrom, and Jory Lindstrom, and a proud grandmother to Walter and Frances Lindstrom. Family was Gloria’s greatest joy. She celebrated every milestone, offered unwavering encouragement, and took immense pride in the people she loved.

One of Gloria’s greatest passions was preserving family history. She spent decades researching genealogy, interviewing relatives, documenting family stories, and ensuring that future generations would understand their roots and the resilience of those who came before them. Through her writing, she left behind a priceless gift for her family.

Travel was equally close to Gloria’s heart. Together, Gloria and Doug embraced every opportunity to explore the world, creating cherished memories through family road trips, adventures to Disneyland and Disney World, vacations in Mexico and Hawaii, and journeys across Canada and the United States. Gloria and Doug’s adventures eventually spanned the globe as they immersed themselves in different cultures, histories, and experiences. Gloria approached every destination with curiosity and wonder, ultimately setting foot on every continent. She returned home from each journey with stories and photos to share, and a deeper appreciation for the world around her.

At home, Gloria expressed her love through cooking, baking, quilting, gardening, crafting, and caring for others. Family and friends were always welcomed with open arms, a meal at the table, and a place to belong. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she quietly sewed hundreds of masks for those in need, just one example of the generosity that defined her life.

Following complications from colon cancer surgery, Gloria faced her final six and a half weeks with courage, grace, strength, and determination inspiring all those around her. She passed peacefully with loved ones by her side on June 7, 2026.

Gloria leaves behind her devoted husband, Douglas Lindstrom; her children, Andrew Lindstrom and Jory Lindstrom; her cherished grandchildren, Walter and Frances Lindstrom; her siblings Albert Strumecki, Janet Van Helvert, Noreen Hollman, and Linda Brand; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

She was predeceased by her son, Troy Van Helvert; her parents, Ludwig and Nellie Strumecki; and her brothers Allan, Ron, and Lorne Strumecki.

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in the extraordinary legacy Gloria leaves behind. Her influence lives on in the family she cherished, the history she preserved, the adventures she embraced, and the kindness she shared so freely with others.

In keeping with Gloria’s greatest gift of bringing family and loved ones together, a joint Celebration of Life honouring Gloria Lindstrom and her beloved big brother Albert Strumecki will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the German Canadian Cultural Association, 8310 Roper Road, Edmonton, Alberta.

Family and friends are invited to gather in an open house celebration to share stories, memories, laughter, and love as we honour two remarkable lives and the lasting impact they had on all who knew them.

Forever loved. Forever remembered. Forever missed.
