James Edward “Jim” McGuire

November 2, 1949 – September 17, 2026

Surrounded by loved ones, James Edward “Jim” McGuire passed away peacefully on September 17, 2026.

Jim was born in Edmonton on November 2, 1949, to James McGuire and Ramona Klymok. He grew up in the Ritchie neighbourhood with his older sister, Darlean, and younger brother, Garry, and attended Bonnie Doon High School.

Jim recently celebrated 56 years of marriage with his wife, Jean Audry McGuire. Together they raised their children, Jill (Darren) Spinks and James (Kim) McGuire. He was a proud Papa to his granddaughters, Mackenzie and Chloe, and deeply valued his family and the time they shared together.

He will also be lovingly remembered by his sister, Darlean Kroetsch; brother, Garry (Janet) McGuire; and his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Ramona and James, and his brother-in-law, Stan Kroetsch.

Jim spent much of his career in sales and as a business owner, primarily in the pet food and supply industry — fitting for a man who had a lifelong love of animals. Animals were simply part of who Jim was, and there was rarely one of his beloved pets far from his side.

He was hardworking, humble, patient and sincere. Jim didn’t need to be the loudest person in the room and never sought attention for himself. He was someone you could count on — dedicated, loyal and true to himself. His friendships weren’t counted in numbers, but in decades.

Jim found joy in the everyday: fishing and camping, travelling, gardening, spending time with family and, of course, enjoying a cold beer. He loved watching sports and was a loyal Edmonton Oilers fan and longtime Edmonton Eskimos/Elks supporter, standing by his teams through the good seasons and the not-so-good ones.

He was endlessly curious and never lost his love of learning. And then there was his sense of humour. Jim was never short of a bad pun or dad joke, a movie line for almost any situation, or a song lyric that somehow found its way into the conversation.

Jim was genuine and unassuming, with a quiet, steady presence and a deep appreciation for the people, animals and simple pleasures that filled his life. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Fairey of the Kaye Edmonton Clinic and Dr. Bui of the Misericordia Community Hospital for their compassionate care and support. We are also deeply grateful to the nurses and staff of the 8th floor at the Misericordia and the 4th floor at CapitalCare Gene Zwozdesky Centre at Norwood for the kindness, dignity and care they showed Jim and our family.
