Patricia Elaine McKALE

Patricia “Pat” McKale, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 12th, 2026 at the age of 83 in Edmonton, Alberta.

Pat was born on September 15th, 1942, in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, to Thora and Obert Wiggens. She was the third of four daughters, alongside her sisters Louise, Joyce, and Carol. Pat spent her early years on the family farm at North Side, where she lived until her mid-teens.

Pat’s family was the center of her world and grew to an incredible 66 members, including her beloved husband Rene, her six children and their six spouses, 26 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Pat was a complex and spirited woman who loved fiercely and lived authentically. She spoke her mind without hesitation, what you saw was truly what you got. She said what she meant and meant what she said, and if she felt slighted, she wasn’t shy about making her feelings known.

She married young and, in her early years, raised her first four children largely on her own while working two jobs to provide for her family. Her strength and determination defined this chapter of her life.

Later, Pat met Rene, and together they built a full and lively life, welcoming twin boys to complete their family of six children. Life was busy and often chaotic, with Rene frequently on the road, but Pat managed it all with resilience and grit. Together, they built not one but two successful companies through hard work and perseverance, all while raising their children and supporting them at countless sporting events and hockey games.

Pat was a devoted Edmonton Oilers fan, regularly attending home games, cheering passionately from the stands, and enjoying her tradition of ice cream between periods, even during the coldest Edmonton winters. She was also a loyal supporter of the Edmonton Elks (formerly the Eskimos), spending many summer days in the bleachers cheering on her team.

Pat was predeceased by her parents and her sister Joyce. She leaves behind her loving husband and partner in crime, Rene; her children Tina (Jay), Don (Shawna), Vicki (Steve), Herb (Jeannine), Ryan (Jillian), and Rene (Lacy); as well as their children, grandchildren and a great-grandchild. She is also survived by her sisters Louise and Carol (Don), her sister-in-law Edna (Don), her brother-in-law Elmer (Claire), and numerous extended family members, reflecting Rene’s large family of 19 siblings.

Pat lived life her way: boldly, honestly, and with fierce love, and she wouldn’t have had it any other way. Pat will be deeply missed, and her strength, honesty, and love will live on in each of us, always.
