Joseph Raymond Ellis McLANE

It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joseph Raymond Ellis McLane, at age 72, on December 2nd, 2023

Survived by his loving wife Ardith, sister Judy (Doug), son Mike (Leah), daughter Jessie (Lorne), grandkids: Austin (Christena), Kayla, Matt, Nolan, Taiylor, and great grandkids: Saige, Ezra and Aislyn.

Joe was born on August 28, 1951 in Sexsmith, Alberta. He started his career at 16 as a truck driver, a job he grew to love. He started out in Spirit River and moved to Edmonton where he married his first wife, Bessie. They welcomed their son, Michael and later their daughter, Jessie. Joe drove for several different companies until he bought his own truck The Old Timer with his friend Reg Watt. Joe did hot shot work and eventually he went hauling rigs. He did a stint in Fort Simpson as an expeditor, earned his millwright ticket and between working winters in Norman Wells where he met his current wife, Ardith. He got his millwright ticket, but trucking was still his passion. He bought another Kenworth and moved rigs in Boxlet, Grande Prairie, where he bought another brand-new Kenworth. He sold his trucks due to medical issues and moved back to Stony Plain to do highway hauling. Most recently Joe did pilot truck driving and driving rig crews to camp. Over the years Joe made many lifetime friends who enjoyed  having a coffee and catching up with. He will be dearly missed by all.

I think it’s been close to 32 yrs since I first met Ardith & Joe. I knew then what special people they both were and what a Great Couple too. Joe was definitely a very Sincere and Caring Gentleman..he could tell a good joke but he didn’t feed you a line of BS if you needed a little reminder! He will leave a void, many fond memories, long time friends and of course his much loved family. Farewell to one of the Best! Our Condolences Ardith and family. Auntie Ardith, Brett and I loved Uncle Joe so much, we will miss our chats with him dearly. He always had a great sense of humour, he was extremely considerate and truly a wonderful person. My deepest sympathy. Joe had a real positive impact on my life. He taught me to drive a truck which has been my livelihood since then. I still own the truck he taught me on. God Bless him and his family.
