Fred Steven John MELENKA

I want to celebrate the extraordinary life of my beloved husband, Fred Melenka, a man who meant the world to me and to everyone who knew him. After 45 wonderful years together, it's hard to put into words the enormity of my loss, but I hope to share a glimpse of the incredible person that he was and all that he brought into our lives.

Fred fought a brave although short battle against liver cancer, something that tried to dim his light but could never extinguish the warmth that he spread to those around him. Even through all the painful treatments, he always had a smile and a thank you for the people who cared for him.

Fred walked this earth with an authenticity that inspired all of us. He was hardworking, always dedicated to not only his work, but to his family. Every sacrifice he made was for us - his two wonderful sons and in recent years his two grandchildren, He took such pride in being a father and then a papa, loving every moment that he spent with them. The twinkle in his eye when he was playing or teaching them something new reminded me of a child's pure delight, a testament to how he approached life.

Fred had a spirit so kind and honest that it touched everyone he met. Whether he was lending a helping hand to a neighbour or sharing a laugh with friends, his genuine nature and compassion knew no bounds. He believed in the power of kindness (secretly of course) and he showed me every day that even the smallest act could make a world of difference.

He enjoyed the simple things in life, finding solace and joy in the great outdoors. The lake was his sanctuary, where he could cast a line and just watch the world go by. Fishing was not just a pastime, but a way for him to connect with nature and the beauty of life. It was his way of unwinding, of finding peace amongst the chaos of the world. Many of our happiest moments were spent at the lake where we shared laughter, love and made a million memories.

As I write this, I am reminded of the legacy he leaves behind. His strength, his honesty and his kindness will forever be etched in our hearts. He taught our boys the value of hard work and integrity and showed them how to be good men.

He may no longer walk among us, but his spirit will continue to guide us, to shine brightly in our memories and in the stories we share. It is my hope that we will all carry forward his legacy - of love, kindness and respect for one another, remembering that life is precious and every moment counts. Right now, I mourn my loss, but I also celebrate the gift of having known him and the love he brought into my life. He may be gone from my sight, but he will never be gone from my heart.

Wow! I’m not sure how you arranged those words, but it’s a beautiful description of him and what the two of you shared.

Freddy has been a significant part of my life through various stages. I will always remember the lessons he shared with me. He taught me how to drive fast cars, water ski, and drill holes- so many holes! He also showed me how to work on trailers and, most importantly, the connection our family has with the lake. I will miss the way he greeted me when I called. Sending all my love to you and the boys.

Heaven received another amazing person in Fred he will be missed by many. As I look back at my own personal experiences I can’t help but think of how he helped shape myself as well, taught me how to sled, sold me my first car (basically gave it to me) took me under his wing working on my “PHD” as he would put it, made me my first paralyzer, taught me what hard work meant and how good it feels to make a honest living and was always there to lend a hand when I needed. I will never forget the impact he had on me from an early age through to my young adult life and for that I will always be grateful.

This is sad and shocking news. My wife Viviane and I had the privilege to be neighbours and friends to both Fred and Linda at the lake since 2011. We’ll miss our talks and helping each other. Our sincere condolences to Linda and the family.

I witnessed decades of his kind and friendly nature from next door. Shoveling my walks, helping me with car trouble and always with a sunny smile and cheerful laugh. May light perpetual shine upon you Fred.

Linda, we only knew Fred for a year as new lake neighbours, but felt like we knew him (and you) longer. We are heartbroken to read of his passing. Sending our love.
