Garin Alen MIKKELSON

Garin Alen Mikkelson, born on November 27, 2007, in Edmonton, left us far too soon on May 22, 2025, at the young age of 17. Garin was a bright spark, full of curiosity and a mischievous spirit that kept everyone around him on their toes. He had an insatiable thirst for knowledge and adventure, always eager to learn and explore.

From a young age, Garin showed a remarkable tenacity. Whether it was learning to ride a horse or mastering the art of archery, he embraced challenges with a fierce determination. His inquisitive nature led him to explore the intricacies of building his We The People BMX, a project he undertook with great enthusiasm and pride. Earning his learner’s permit was another milestone that fueled his love for the road ahead.

Garin’s life was a tapestry woven with laughter, quiet moments, and an unyielding spirit. He was smart, private, and always had a twinkle in his eye that hinted at a world of ideas churning in his mind. His journey, though brief, was filled with achievements that showcased his talents and the unique individual he was becoming.

He leaves behind his loving mother, Diane Mikkelson, unwavering in her devotion to Garin as well as his three siblings. Garin’s sister, Salena Rose, has always been fully dedicated to her brothers.  Older brother, Deklin Mark, brought Liam Mark (mother Delanie Richardson) and Vera Dyanna (mother Bridget McFee) into the close-knit family. Garin fell into the role of uncle easily.  Hudson Randal is the youngest sibling and, no doubt, learned and experienced many things from Garin, taking a few risks along the way as he tried to pedal fast enough to keep up. Garin was predeceased by his father, Brendon Mikkelson, in May of 2021. He was also predeceased by paternal grandparents Alfred and Irene Mikkelson (nee Huffman) and maternal grandparents John and Wenonah Mason (nee Lunger).

We invite family and friends to join us in celebrating Garin’s life at a service to be held at Pointe West Cremation and Funeral Services, located at 15305 – 112 Ave NW, Edmonton, Alberta. The gathering will take place on May 31st from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, with a short service beginning at 2:00 pm. It will be a time to share memories, support one another, and honor the vibrant life Garin lived.

As we remember Garin, we hold close the words of Elizabeth Stone: “Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.” Garin was indeed a piece of our hearts, and his presence will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered.
