James William MILLER

Peacefully and surrounded by his family, Jim passed away on September 15, 2023, at the age of 79 years.

Jim will be lovingly missed by his wife of 55 years, Jacquie, his children John and Jolene (Norman), and grandchildren Rose, Elliot, Stuart and Shelby. Jim is survived by three of his siblings, Darlene (Colin) Carter, Glen Miller and Bonnie Austen and sister-in-law, Linda Brodie, as well as by numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his son Jeffery; parents Ewart and Gladys Miller; mother and father-in-law Jack and Margaret Brodie; brother Harold, brother-in-laws Jim Brodie, Mal MacLeod and Tony Austen; sister-in-laws Bonnie MacLeod and Mary Miller.

Jim was the first baby born in Canada in 1944, in Edmonton, and spent his childhood years in Riverdale with his dear friend Paul Cetinski. He had a passion for cars, family time at the cabin, boating on Lac St. Anne, popcorn around the fire and walks down the Bow River in Banff. He was his family’s biggest fan at their many dance and band concerts and competitions, volleyball games, drama performances, archery tournaments and mountain bike races.

Jim was a loving and sentimental husband, father and Bumpa. He regularly expressed his love and pride in his children and grandchildren, blessing us with no words left unspoken. He will be remembered as an enthusiastic storyteller, skilled crib player, master popcorn maker, and a generous man who gave to others selflessly.

Our family is sincerely grateful to the staff at the Glenrose and Royal Alexandra Hospital for their care with Dad, Garry Howdle at Pointe West Funeral Home for his sincere compassion and Reverend Christian Kakez-A-Kapend for his special bond with Dad and his guidance and support.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Chalmers-Castledowns United Church.

A Celebration of Life for James will be held:

Friday, September 22nd, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.

Our prayers & condolences Jacquie, Jolene & Norm, John, & and the grandchildren – on the passing of dear Uncle Jim. He was “one-of-a-kind”, joyful, kind, loving & an awesome man!. Kelly Anne was one of Jim & Jacquie’s wedding flower girls 55 years ago. Ever since, Jim was a supportive & caring Uncle. He had a dazzling personality & natural gifts he shared with all of us.

Jacquie and Family. My thoughts are with you all during this difficult time. “Trouble” as he always announced himself to me in person and on the phone will be missed terribly at the clinic. He always brought a smile and good belly laugh to my day every single time he came in and when he called the clinic “just to check in”. On occasion, other patients in our waiting room also benefited from Jim’s wit and humor. I will miss that humor. May all your wonderful memories, keep you strong and smiling in the days ahead.
