Sandra Joy MOLONEY

Sandra Joy Moloney (née Rees) passed away peacefully on September 7, 2026, in the arms of her family after a courageous journey with brain cancer.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of nearly 40 years, Peter; her two daughters, Jessica (Justin) Okerman and Emily (Mackenzie) Moloney; her father, Reg Rees; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.  Sandra was predeceased by her mother, Peggy Rees.

Sandra was born February 20, 1963 in Montreal to Reg and Peggy Rees.  Sandra’s love of travelling was fostered in her childhood on the many Rees family vacations with her parents and younger siblings Sue (Michael) McGee and Doug (Nellie) Rees. While working for CN Rail in Montreal, Sandra met the love of her life, Peter, and they were married September 13, 1986.  Blessed with two daughters, Sandra chose to stay home to raise their family while they lived in Kamloops and Winnipeg before finally settling in St. Albert.  Sandra returned to work for the City of St. Albert in 2000, ultimately finding her home in the Culture Department where she formed life-long friendships and supported the St. Albert Children’s Festival.  She retired from the City in 2019 and joined PSCL where she built a new work family supporting employee recruitment and retention.  Throughout her life, Sandra was an active volunteer in her community through her daughters’ schools and activities and her church.  She continued to love to travel and was never happier than sitting on the deck of a cruise ship with her knitting.

Thank you to Dr. Omene and the entire team at the Cross Cancer Institute for their care of Sandra after her cancer diagnosis.  Special gratitude to Dr. Kerry Pawluski, Danessa and the palliative care team, and Evelyn and the Alberta Homecare Solutions team that allowed Sandra to remain comfortably at home for the remainder of her life.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 11:00 am, at St. Augustine’s – Parkland Anglican Church, 131 Church Rd, Spruce Grove. Light lunch to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sandra’s name to the Cross Cancer Institute via the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
