Dana McNiel MURPHY
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend Dana McNeil Murphy. With his wife by his side, Dana passed peacefully on March 19, 2024. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 48 years Violet Murphy and his children Sarah Garcia (Jon), Erin Murphy, Amanda Forestier (Danny), Megan Murphy (Brandon), Shannon Herman (Shawn) and grandchildren Kasey, Danilo, Malaya, Grace, Bella, Jayden, Sutton, and Reese and brother Dorrance (Buster) and two sisters Debbie and Deena. Dana is predeceased by his parents Alton and Vera Murphy and brother Durwood (Tiny) Murphy.
Dana was born in Sweetsburg, Quebec, on February 19, 1952. He ventured to Gibsons, BC, where he met the love of his life Violet. They later settled in Hinton, AB, where they raised their five daughters. Dana was an avid fisherman and hunter who spent many hours trying to catch fish with his dear friend Tony Lancaster. Later in life, Dana found his love of swimming which was encouraged by his loving friend and swim instructor Anne Resek. A cherished memory for Dana’s daughters and grandchildren is the smell of Dana’s homemade bread.
Dana’s family is extremely grateful for the wonderful and compassionate care that he received from the supportive staff at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. In particular, the rehabilitation team was a highlight for Dana in his final months.
As per Dana’s wishes, a celebration of life will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Parkview Hall at 9135-146 St, NW, Edmonton, Alberta at 1:00 pm
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dana’s name to the Stollery Children’s Hospital.
