Lorna Marion NELSON

The life journey of Lorna Marion Nelson (Smith), 95(&four months) came to an end on May 20, 2026.

Mom was born in Kerrobert Saskatchewan in 1931 and grew up the ‘middle child’ in Saskatoon, with her parents Fred & Mildred, and siblings Dorothy and Bob.   She graduated from the Royal Alex nursing school, in the class of 54.  In addition to making lifelong friends in nursing school, she met a handsome accounting student, Jack Nelson, and they married in 1954.  After a short time nursing, Lori (1956), Gail (1960), Tom (1964) and David (1969) arrived, to keep her very busy.

We lived in Edmonton until 1977, when opportunity knocked for Dad and the family moved to Lethbridge. Lori remained in Edmonton, attending University.

Lorna lived for family and friends.  She had many lifelong friends and made many along the way. Letters, phone calls, dinners, get-togethers, card games and laughter were all on the menu and our friends were always welcome to join in too, though you’d best follow the rules!!  Out by 11, hang up your coat and clean up after yourselves.

After retiring to Kelowna in 1991, Mom & Dad greatly enjoyed travel and many happy times, until Dad’s passing in 1997.  She continued to travel and remain close to her family & friends, returning to Alberta in 2008, to be closer to her ‘kids’.

Lorna is survived by Lori, Gail (John), Tom and David (Carrie Ann), grandchildren Lindsay, Jonas and Abby, niece Heather Bain, nephews Keith & Steven Bain, Brian & Tim Smith, as well as great nephews and a great niece.

Mom requested no formal funeral service, but we invite you to gather with us to celebrate her life Thursday May 28 at 1:00, in the West River’s Edge in Fort Saskatchewan.  Please bring any stories you’d like to share.
