Ron (Leonard) OBIREK

Ron Obirek (Leonard), husband, dad, grandpa, great grandpa, brother and friend, peacefully, and with loved ones by his side, received his angel wings on April 15, 2026.

Ron is now joyfully back in the arms of his beloved wife Vickie, who has been his true heart for over 67 years.  Dad has been heartbroken and missed Mom profoundly over these past 7 months. Now along with their beautiful memories of yesterday their love story and their magical journey continues.

Ronnie’s handsome, strong character is unique, and he will be remembered for his charm, brilliance, cleverness, gritty spirit, entrepreneurial ideas, historical recall, bartering skills, and vision.

Ron’s family made his heart happy and proud. His love will live on with his legacy: his youngest son, and most favorite child, Mickey, grandson Dylan (Vanessa) great grandkids Henry & Aria, grandson Dakota (Shayanne), granddaughter Samantha (Brooks); devoted daughter Frankie, benevolent son-in-law Peter, grandson Marshall (October); oldest son Ron (Shannon) grandsons Jacob & Mathew.

Along with his sweet Vickie he is now reunited with his parents Ann and Stan, and much-loved parent in-laws James and Helen Lompik.

November 9, 1938, Ron was born in East Selkirk MB. He lived in Bienfait SK and Port Arthur ON until Vickie captured his heart in 1959, then Edmonton became his forever home.

Dad had the hustle and was ingenious, fast thinking and making money even at a young age.  He was hauling water from the town well in his wagon at single digits; he was catching fish and selling to locals at ten and hustling pool when he got in his teens, he played hockey and worked hard and was a self-taught carpenter as a young man.  He worked as a carpenter, milk man, maintenance man, driver and lifelong numismatist.

You may have experienced his wit and his twinkly eyes and charming grin while negotiating a numismatist deal, at the horse races at northlands, at an auction sale, flea market, at a poker game or the casino.

Carpentry, woodworking, gardening, landscaping, gold panning, hunting, fishing, coin dealing, gambling and TV were his passions.

Ron had a sweet soul and gentle heart towards his grandchildren, great grandchildren and his beloved dogs. He was always kind, respectful and helpful to his elders. A good citizen to someone in need; he would be the first to buy a meal or offer what he had if you were on hard times.

Ron was proud, independent, strong-willed, and determined. He is very much admired for wrestling a challenging life journey with hardships and somehow finding his way through numerous health crisis with resilience and adaptability.

Forever in our hearts, Rockin Ronnie will be missed, a legend in his own right; our Dad/Grandpa will be remembered and never forgotten.

An Inurnment Service for Ron & Vickie will be held at the St. Albert Cemetery later in the Spring.
