Vickie (Vera) OBIREK
Vickie Obirek (Vera Lompik), wife, mom, grannie, great grannie, sister & friend, received her Angel Wings on September 10, 2025.
Vickie’s beloved husband, of almost 67 years, Ronnie; has a broken heart, beautiful memories and warm reflection of their love story & magical journey together.
Her enchanting spirit, beauty, courage, determination, strength, wit, sweetness, creativity, brilliance and gypsy ways will be missed and never forgotten.
Vickie’s family was her heart and her love will live on with her legacy: her youngest son, and most favorite child, Mickey, grandson Dylan (Vanessa) great grandkids Henry & Aria, grandson Dakota (Shayanne), granddaughter Samantha (Brooks); devoted daughter Frankie, benevolent son-in-law Peter, grandson Marshall (October); oldest son Ron (Shannon) grandsons Jacob & Mathew.
She is now back in the arms of her parents James and Helen Lompik & brother Ed and cuddling all the dogs she loved. Survived by sister Ollie & brother Vern.
Special thanks to dear friend Carolyn who brought joy & laughter to Vickie’s journey.
January 7, 1943, Vickie’s humble beginnings started with being delivered, by her father, at home, during a snowstorm in Riverdale. Riverdale is where she was a baseball champ, one of the first journal papergirls and a May Festival Queen.
Her career was in hospitality and she was a legend at Northlands Clubhouse with racehorses Sheilagh’s Vickie & Vickie’s Champ being named after her. You may recognize her enchanting smile from her civic duty at elections, census taking or doing demos throughout Edmonton. Hardworking and creativity were her special powers with helping family & friends, helping at the farm in Smoky Lake, harvesting a huge vegetable garden, cooking to excellence, designing/sewing garments, knitting blankets, or joyfully being outside tending to any chore.
Vickie was little but mighty; and is very much admired for wresting a long 7 year battle of physical health crisis with grace, dignity, joy, humour and resilience.
Forever in ours hearts, Sweet Vickie will be remembered.

Dearest Frankie and family,
I am so deeply sorry for this unimaginable loss. It’s one of the harder ones in life and what a wonderful and beautiful daughter you have been to both of your parents. You will forever breathe the loss of your mom, but with time, you will be able to share memories and look at photos and laugh and smile again. What a beautiful family story, I see your face in hers! She was beautiful, resilient, hard-working, and obviously a much loved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother! I love the photos that you’ve shared. I wish I had words that would help, but I don’t think I do. Losing your mother is devastating, no matter the age. She’s no longer bound to her earthly body, which was holding her back. She will always be close by. And you will see her again! Much love to you and all of your family and a special hug to your dad. What a tremendous life they had together!
What an awesome tribute. Thank you.
My heartfelt sympathy to the family for your profound long journey and now loss. Warm hugs to Frankie, Peter, Marshall, Ron and Ollie. Lee.
