Constance M. “Connie” REID

Constance M. (Connie) REID

April 20, 1940 – December 29, 2025

Connie died after a brief illness in hospital at the age of 85.  She is survived by her son Randy, and three grandchildren Noah, Gabrielle, and Brooklyn.  She was predeceased by her parents Henry and Elsie Fink, brothers Edgar, Alvin, and Wilfrid, and sisters Elvera (Vera) and Loreen.

Connie was born and raised on the family farm near Forestburg, Alberta. In 1958, she moved to Edmonton to begin her pursuit of an Education Degree at the University of Alberta.  Connie graduated from the U of A in 1961 as a teacher, teaching at several schools in Edmonton such as Ritchie, Mill Creek, and Hazeldean.  She was extremely passionate about teaching and was very kind but firm with her students.  Connie had a great sense of humour and loved to have fun with her students.  She connected with them at a very personal level, making her a favourite teacher within the school.

While Connie was teaching in Edmonton, she met Robert (Bob) Reid of Castor, Alberta.  They married in April 1965 and their son, Randy, was born in November 1965.  The family lived in the Duggan community, located at the southern edge of the city at the time.  Bob and Connie continued to live in Edmonton for the remainder of their years together, until Bob passed away in August 2024.  After Bob passed away, Connie moved into a Memory Care Seniors Facility in Edmonton, where she lived out her remaining days.

Connie retired from teaching in 1973 and transitioned to a stay-at-home mom, looking after Randy and Bob.  Connie was an avid cook and homemaker who loved gardening, crafts, art, music, and animals.

Bob and Connie enjoyed travel with multiple trips to Hawaii, California, Florida, the Caribbean, and Europe.  They eventually found a second home in Peoria Arizona, where they spent their winters as typical “snowbirds” enjoying the beautiful weather, sights, and company of their Arizona friends, that they had established close relationships with over their later years.

Connie was dearly loved by her son Randy, who maintains she was “the best mom in the world” and her three grandchildren who loved to play with “granny” when they were little, making her dress up and do whatever silly games they were playing as toddlers to their endless delight.

A private celebration of Connie’s life will be planned for later in spring, a time of year Connie loved.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the  Alzheimer Society of Alberta.

Randy, I feel for all the “it” you’ve gone through in the past year and a half. It seems unbearable to me, yet, somehow you keep soldiering on. I would love to see you again and give you a hug, but I know that’s not possible. Please be aware that Neal is available whenever you need him and I am with him.
Your mom and dad have been our longest and best friends. Personally, I miss them terribly.

I can just imagine Connie, chuckling to herself, as she was playing dress up with her grandkids.
I have sweet memories of her keeping us – Randy’s Forestburg Cousins (Danny, Jewel and Candice) – for a week in the city…. what a treat it was to be in her care!
Always gentle, soft-spoken and attentive, she was my special aunt who won’t be forgotten.
