Melvin Raymond ROGUSKI

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our wonderful father and husband Mel Roguski. Mel left us in the warmth of his wife’s arms surrounded by his family on May 14, 2023, after a long valiant health battle. Mel loved golf , the Oilers, traveling, bbqing, music, his long list of friends, and his many nieces and nephews, but most importantly his wife Lillian, whom he married June 14, 1969.

Mel’s life was dedicated to his daughter Robyn, son Douglas, his large extended family and his career in insurance as an adjuster, retiring in 2018.
Born May 6 1949, he was the eldest of 4 siblings, David Roguski, Garry Roguski and Janis (Brian) Horne. He was predeceased by his parents Emil and Anne.
Please join us in celebrating his life and his journey on May 25 at 4pm, Lauderdale community hall 12937 107st NW Edmonton AB.
We ask that in lieu of flowers please make a donation to STARS Air Ambulance.

Mel, you were a lifelong friend of over 60 years.

I will miss our weekly golf games together, all the fun you and I had beating up on politics, sports and just trash talking in general.

This was especially fun during Oiler games when we would text back and forth. You and I knew what was wrong with the team and how to fix it. It’s just that the Oiler brass never listened to us old dudes. If they had they might still be olaying.

You have given me good and logical advice about everything, including my own health battle. It has kept me positive about life overall.

You knew about all our family and you cared about us all.

RIP my friend. We will all miss you.

PS, we still golfed on Wednesday so we could celebrate you. We shared a shooter on number 11 tee box along with a lot of Mel stories and the wisdom that came out of all of them, and the humor of course. And, we talked about your game last week. It might very well have been the best game we had seen you play.

We are sorry to hear of Mel’s passing. When I arrived in Edmonton at the old Co-operators office in Oct. 1973 Mel was the first person to take me under his wing and explain how things were done differently here than they were in Sask. Over the years I learned much from Mel, especially from observing how he dealt with people and his special gift of being able to gain people’s confidence. Mel was a star in the world of insurance claims and will be long remembered.I am honored to have been considered as one of Mel’s many friends.Unfortunately Heather and I will be in B.C.next week and unable to attend the Celebration of Life.

A good friend, a loyal mentor and someone who made my cancer journey very easy to take on. He saw it all the way he wanted me to see it. I did see it that way and he was 100% correct. Mel also probably had his best golf game the day before his surgery. RIP my friend !

This is hard, saying goodbye to an old friend. Mel, you were never one to leave anything early. This is too early! Life was so full of things for you and Lil to do. Golf trips and BC and more golf. I have many good memories of you and Lil. One of those is that you barbequed the best and most tender steak ever. Gonna miss that. I am so sad for you Lil, Robbie and Doug. And all the family. Mel left a bit of himself on all that he touched. Goodbye my old friend!
