September 26, 1960 – June 23, 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and cherished friend, Patricia “Patty” Lee Royea.
Patty was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and was the youngest daughter of Lorne and Roma Ettles. She grew up in Allan, Saskatchewan, where she spent her childhood and completed her schooling. At the age of 18, Patty moved to Alberta, beginning a new chapter in her life.
Patty loved the simple joys in life — curling, crafting, a good game of cards, a little shopping, trying her luck at the casino, enjoying a good glass of wine, and, most of all, spending time visiting and sharing laughs with family and friends. She had a warm heart and a special way of making those around her feel cared for.
Patty and her daughter Jamie shared a bond that was truly special. As a mother, Patty devoted herself to Jamie, and their relationship remained one of the greatest joys in her life. That same love continued to grow with the arrival of her granddaughter, Aidan, lovingly known as her “lil Peanut.” Patty cherished the time she spent with her girls and the memories they created together.
Patty will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Jamie Lowry (Stuart Lowry), and her granddaughter, Aidan Lowry.
She is survived by her siblings: Jim Ettles (Donna Ettles) and Lenora Basterash (Gerald Basterash). She was predeceased by her sister Deborah Eberly in 2015, her father Lorne Ettles in 2000, and her mother Roma Ettles in 2017.
Patty was predeceased by her husband, Garry Royea, in 2024.
She leaves behind many cherished memories that will be held close by all who knew and loved her.
A celebration of life will take place at a future date.
So so sad to hear Jim! Think of her with joy & laughter remembering all the moments you two shared over these years! Another guardian angel to watch over you and your family. Eternal rest

Dear Jamie, Stuart and the Ettles family,
It was with shock and sadness that my husband Bob and I learned of Patty’s passing. Our neighbourhood on 147st street has been a tight one, and even after Patty moved out a few years ago, people still remained connected with her and cared about her well-being. That speaks as much about the person she was, as much as those around her. She was never a loud or center-of-attention person, but rather a kind, friendly, thoughtful and reliable type – basically everything you could ask for in a neighbour.
Bob and my relationship with Patty came on gradually as we settled into the neighbourhood. Jamie, you were quickly growing up and spreading your wings of freedom by the time we connected with her, but that didn’t mean that you weren’t the absolute focus of her life. In fact, she spoke of you so much, we felt that you were still just across the street from us. Of course, that only got amplified with the addition of Stuart and the Lil Peanut Aidan! We also heard quite a bit about Patty’s parents, siblings and her early years. No question, family was first with Patty.
That’s not to say we neighbours didn’t get to enjoy some of her attention, particularly with Gary and Bandit in tow. On a variety of occasions, we’d share a late day beverage on their step or ours, discussing the state of affairs as the neighbourhood kids romped around us. Gary would usually be having a bit of banter with someone (very often with Ruth or Bob and I). Patty would simply look at me and roll her eyes, and then after a pause would put her head back and chortle. I think that image and the sound of her laughter will always stick with me. That, and the way she said your name, Jamie. It’s just imprinted in my mind.
Patty was a good person and a wonderful neighbour that left her piece of the world a bit better for her having been here. I think I can speak for all of us who’ve lived on 147st in saying that we feel fortunate for having crossed paths with her in our lives, and we are tremendously sorry for the loss of her in yours.

I met Patty & Gary living 3 houses down from them in Parkview.
First time I met Patty she came to my house and we drank wine while Gary installed a garage opener for me 🤗
After Gary passed Patty and I became closer as I had lost my husband as well.
When she moved out of Parkview we would meet up every couple months for lunch to catch up.
She always showed me current pics of Aidan( lil peanut)
And how amazing Jamie and Stuart were to her.
The neighborhood has never been the same since she left…
