Sandra Margaret (nee Nicoll) SEARLE

We are devastated to announce the passing of Sandra (Nicoll) Searle, loving wife to Barry and devoted “Momma Searley” to Krista on August 25, 2025.

Born to Margaret and William (Ross) Nicoll, Sandra grew up with her older brother Bill in the Cloverdale neighbourhood of Edmonton, attending area schools and graduating from Bonnie Doon Composite High School in 1965.  After a memorable trip to Australia by boat in 1967, Sandra returned to Canada and started work at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.  Over her career, she held many administrative roles with the hospital, Capital Health, and Alberta Health Services before her retirement in 2008.

In 1971, she met the man who would become her husband through mutual friends at The Rex Hotel Bar.  They married in 1973 and settled in St. Albert.  Daughter Krista arrived in 1975.

Sandra enjoyed all sorts of sports and activities growing up, playing competitive basketball, curling, and swimming.  She also enjoyed square dancing with her parents.  As an adult, she curled and golfed in various leagues both with and without Barry.  Krista was even able to talk her into taking a dance class or two.  She loved watching curling on TV where she was never afraid to provide her honest opinion about the teams, and she enjoyed attending curling events with her friends and whatever family member she could “entice” into attending.

She was often the first to volunteer her time, whether it was coordinating the hospital picnic, leading Krista’s Brownie Pack, or volunteering with the RAH Women’s Auxiliary.  Krista has carried on this tradition with her own volunteer commitments.

Predeceased by her parents Margaret and Ross, and her brother Bill, Sandra is survived by her husband Barry, daughter Krista, sisters in law Una and Cathie (Dick), brother-in-law Wayne (Gloria), plus numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  She made an impact of everyone she met and will be remembered fondly by numerous friends, neighbours, colleagues, and acquaintances.

We’d also like to extend a sincere thank you to the team at the University of Alberta Hospital, “The Village, and Krista’s sorority sisters and friends for their love and support during this time.

When I am dead my dearest,

Sing no sad song for me

Plant thou no roses at my head,

Nor shady cypress tree;

Be the green grass above me

With showers and dewdrops wet;

And if thou wilt, remember,

And if thou wilt, forget.

I shall not see the shadows,

I shall not see the rain;

I shall not hear the nightingale

Sing on as if in pain:

And dreaming through the twilight

That doth not rise nor set,

Haply I may remember,

And haply may forget

            Song, Christina Rosetti

    I am so sorry to hear of Sandra’s passing. We curled in the same ladies league in St. Albert and would run in to each other at local curling events. I also ran in to her and Barry at Jimmy’s once in a while. She was a great person and was lots of fun. My deepest sympathy to you both.

    I met Barry and Sandra when we worked at Calgary Power and continued on thru the TransAlta days. Continued on thru TARA luncheons. Sandra was always cheerful and spoke her mind, such a loss so soon. Take care brother!

    We are very sorry to hear of Sandra’s passing. Over the last 50 years, any time we saw her at various functions, she was always full of bounce and energy.
