SIMPSON, Bishop Orrain G. [November 19,1946-February 3, 2023]

It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bishop O.G. Simpson on Friday, February 3, 2023, at the age of 76.

Bishop Simpson was born on November 19, 1946, in Potsdam, Munro College, St. Elizabeth in Jamaica to loving and nurturing parents, Henry Joseph Simpson and Clare Bonella Simpson.

He migrated to the UK in the autumn of 1965, to be reconciled with his eldest siblings, and there he cultivated a wonderful life for himself. In 1970, he was united in marriage to the beautiful Pearline Lyleith Ricketts, having met her at their local church, Old Hall Street in Wolverhampton. 

In 1977, Bishop Simpson migrated to Edmonton, Alberta in Canada, to assume the official role as pastor of Bethel United Church, established in 1975. His wife and two young sons would join him later in 1978.

Bishop Simpson, faithfully, lovingly, and with great care, pastored Bethel United Church for over 43 years, until his retirement in 2020. Under his leadership, as the District Overseer of the Western District of Churches in Canada – the organization has expanded to British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Stony Plain, Alberta, and The Yukon.

Bishop Simpson will be remembered as a humble, loving, and caring pastor who was always available to assist with the needs of the church members and individuals within the community.

Bishop O.G. Simpson leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 13 years, Eliza C. Goulbourne-Simpson; son Barrington Simpson (Geraldine), grandchildren: Shalice and JoVaughn; daughter Genieve M. Simpson-Hind (Kenroy); daughter-in-law Muriel (Diane) R. Simpson (widow of Wayne), grand-daughter: Olivia; stepson Colin Nicholson (Patricia), step-granddaughter Carissa; sister-in-law Zelda Simpson (widow of Roy); eldest sister Carmen E. Dawes (Eustace); brothers: Lenworth (Baba) C. Simpson (widower of Eugenie), Ulpian L. Simpson (Jean); brother-in-law, Laban O. Wright (widower of Lyneve); numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins, the extended family, and his church community.

He is preceded in death by his: mother Clare Bonella Simpson (née Lewis) [died 1950]; father Henry Joseph Simpson [died 1957]; eldest brother Roy Lorenzo Simpson [died 1993]; first wife Pearline Lyleith Simpson [died 2005]; first-born son Wayne Golbert Simpson [died 2013] and baby sister Lyneve Victoria Wright (née Simpson) [died 2020].

 A viewing will be held on Friday, March 3, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Bethel United Church of Jesus Christ (Apostolic), 9950-148 Street, Edmonton which will be followed by a Memorial Service at 6:30 p.m.

Final viewing will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at Life Church (formerly Evangel) at 4461-50 Street, Edmonton, Alberta followed by the Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Westlawn Memorial Gardens, 16310 Stony Plain Road, Edmonton. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation and the Alzheimer Society. Pointe West Cremation & Funeral Service Limited has been entrusted with funeral arrangements (780) 454-7878.
