It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Curtis Sims on July 11, 2026. He will be greatly missed by family and his many friends. Curtis was born in Edmonton on May 24, 1953. He had his schooling in Edmonton, completing grade 12 at Jasper Place Composite High School, where he excelled at sports and was an accomplished athlete. He went on to play hockey with the Camrose Lutheran College (now Augustana) Vikings. Later, he studied at the University of Alberta, taking both science and geology.

Curt was an accomplished oil lab technician, working for Imperial Oil, Esso, and the Strathcona County Refinery for many years. Curtis spent 1982–1994 living in the town of Devon, Alberta, where he loved taking his kids to the river valley and enjoying the beautiful summer days. After relocating to Sherwood Park, Curt became an avid supporter of his children’s sports, coaching and driving them from one soccer field or arena to the next. He was always their biggest fan!

Above all, Curtis was a loving father. His children, Troy, Dan, and Katie, were the center of his world, and he stood by their side with unwavering love and support.

To know Curtis was to know kindness, loyalty, and genuine friendship. He had a unique way of connecting with people and making them feel like they belonged. His laugh was contagious, and his presence made every gathering better.

Curt leaves to mourn his children, Troy, Dan (Tara), Katie (Sheldon); Barb (the children’s mother) and her companion Bill; his sisters, Pam and Daphne (Alvin); and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Eva and Robert Sims; Ruth and Julius (his mother- and father-in-law); David (brother-in-law); and Davis (nephew). He also leaves to mourn his beloved grandchildren, Odin, Cruz, Hunter, Hadley, and Beckam. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Though our hearts are broken, we are grateful for the memories, the laughter, and the love he gave so freely. Curtis’ legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched and in the family he loved so dearly.
