Orest Eugene SPYCHKA
OREST EUGENE SPYCHKA
September 10, 1947 – June 6, 2026
It is with profound sadness that the family of Orest Eugene Spychka announces his sudden passing on June 6, 2026, at the age of 78.
Orest was born on September 10, 1947, in Myrnam, Alberta, to John and Sophie. He later made his home in Edmonton, Alberta, where he built a life centered on family and friendship.
Orest will be dearly missed by his wife, Dianna; his daughters Jolene (Steve) and Tasha (Rick); and by his grandchildren Remy, Zach, Cole and Sienna, who brought him great pride and joy.
Orest is survived by his sisters Iris and Edna, along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Orest was predeceased by his parents, John and Sophie; his brothers Eddie, Steve, Bill, Roy and Paul; his sisters Elsie, Mary, Ellen, Lil, and Ann; and his dear friend Ernie, who was like family to him and with whom he shared many years of friendship and memories.
Orest started his career at Canada Packers, then going on to work for a roofing company. Most recently he was a dedicated employee of PPG Glass, where he worked for more than 20 years as a driver. He took pride in his work and was respected by his coworkers for his strong work ethic, never calling in sick once.
Family was at the heart of everything Orest did. He treasured time spent with loved ones, whether it was weekends at the cabin, snowmobiling in the winter, camping in Jasper, or simply sitting in the garage visiting with family and friends. He and Dianna enjoyed trips to Hawaii, Palm Springs, and Vancouver Island. Orest especially looked forward to the annual family reunions in Myrnam, where the entire Spychka clan would gather each May long weekend.
Staying connected to family was incredibly important to Orest. He looked forward to regular phone calls with his siblings, children, grandchildren, and extended family. Whether catching up on family news, sharing stories, or simply checking in, those conversations were a treasured part of his daily life and reflected the deep love he had for his family.
Those who knew Orest will remember his warm heart, his jokes with his brothers, his love of old country music, and his genuine enjoyment of spending time with the people he cared about most. There are no words to express how deeply Orest was loved and how greatly he will be missed. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2026 at 2pm at Parkview Hall in Edmonton.

We share our deepest sympathy with my sister Dianna and her daughters Jolene (Steve) and Tasha (Rick) and her grandchildren Cole, Sienna, Remy and Zak. It is with great sadness that we have lost our much loved and endeared brother in law. Orest always had a smile and happy disposition. He never failed to make us laugh with his humor and funny comments. He always made us feel comfortable in his company of friends. He has been a part of our family for as long as I can remember and he will continue to remain in our hearts for as long as we live. Long life to his family and may we all love to remember him. Rest in peace.
