Fay STANKOV

Eleanor Fay (Hodges) Stankov passed away peacefully in her own home in Edmonton on October 3, 2021. She was 82 years old.

Fay (as she was known by all) was born on March 5, 1939 in Regina to John Victor Hodges and Eleanor Jean (Moodie) Hodges. She was the second child and only girl for her parents.

Fay is survived by her only sibling Gerald Hodges (Pearl) of Regina Saskatchewan and their family as well as her two sons Michael and Patrick and their families.

Fay grew up in Regina with her mom, Dad and brother, graduating Grade 12 from Scott Collegiate. She was a Job’s Daughter and served as Honoured Queen of Bethal No. 1 in Regina. She enjoyed many summers at The Hodges Lodge, The Round House at Katepwa Lake that her folks owned. She moved to Edmonton as a young mother of her two sons but returned to the Round House each summer to spend time with her boys and her nephews.

Fay was a lifelong learner. Learning was her passion, and she was well educated on many subjects. She studied law at the University of Alberta, held a real estate license for many years and knew more about cancer (in particular breast cancer) than most doctors know. She was very careful about her diet and understood how everything affected her physical and mental wellbeing.

Fay was an educated successful businesswoman. She had many careers in her life and was very good at all of them. She was the Comptroller at Pardee Equipment, then moved on to a very successful career in Real Estate. Fay owned her own vending machine company and after her time in real estate, she was a Property Manager. In her spare time, Fay was an amazing seamstress and sewed most of her own clothes. Fay did not like to be idle and always had a project or research on the go. She was fiercely independent. Fay was an advocate to the community and spearheaded change buy opposing civic plans but also providing solutions that created a better for everyone solution.

Fay will be very missed by her cousin Lisa (Stankov) & Bryan Gould their daughter Hannah and son Spencer and longtime friend Nancy Mykytiuk as well as a host of wonderful close neighbors Tracey & Clarence Cormier, Anita & Don Loowell, Kerrian & Maurice and their boys, Shaun and Michai, Maxine Willis & Bob Kiehlbauch and Edie Kiehlbauch and Denise Costigan.

Thank you to all her friends and neighbors who allowed Fay to become part of their extended family, spending holidays with her, and including her in your family celebrations. She spoke about you all with respect and enthusiasm, it was time she loved and appreciated you all deeply.

‘Auntie’ Fay will also be lovingly remembered by her nephew and godson Darwin Hodges (Kari) and their family. Auntie Fay’s house was the go-to destination for many Easter holidays, summer vacations and lots of just random visits of “Hey – lets run up to Auntie Fay’s in Edmonton for the weekend”. It’s only a 6 hour drive. We’ll be there before midnight!!”.  Always she said “SURE” and always there was so much fun. Great memories were made with Auntie Fay.

GRUNDOON

A private celebration of Fay’s life is planned. Fay was a proud 34 year cancer survivor. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

    Fay,
Life is always too short no matter your age. So much to say and do. Anita and I will miss your
always engaging banter. Myself especially, as I could bring up any subject and then sit back
and relax as you could always be counted on to keep the conversation flowing, I am sure you will be
a force where ever your soul is now.

I was so sorry to hear about the passing of your mom, Michael and Patrick. Many, many years ago my family, Bernie and Julie Smigiel, my sister Nadine and I (Nicole) enjoyed many a fun time a Grandma Jean and Grandpa John’s cabin — also known as the round house! Their love of nature inspired my family greatly. Your mom was so considerate and thoughtful. My mom and dad talked fondly of her, and we enjoyed the visits with both of you boys and the other cousins, Darwin, Roger, Cameron along with Fay. She was a wonderful conversationalist! Thoughts and prayers are with you a this time and as the holidays come and go when you will miss her very much. take care, Nicole Smigiel
