Zoran STOJANOVIC
It is with profound sadness and heart ache that we announce the passing of Zoran Stojanović.
Zoran passed away peacefully on the evening of Saturday July 29 th surrounded by family. He was diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer shortly before his seventy second birthday, and passed away four months later in a seemingly short but difficult battle.
Zoran was born in Trebinje, Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1951. Him and his family moved to Brčko, Bosnia and Herzegovina in his teenage years where he eventually met his wife Faketa. In 1992, Zoran and Faketa fled the Bosnian war with their two daughters and ultimately moved to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in search of a more peaceful life.
While in the former Yugoslavia, Zoran worked as a bank accountant for seventeen years, and had many talents outside of work in the arts and athletics. He was an amazing painter and had his art exhibited at a gallery in Brčko, and ended up playing volleyball professionally for the local team and travelled much with them. Even in his later years, Zoran always presented as much younger with his youthful looks, spirit, and energy. He was a loyal man to his family and friends and as well worked at Steel Craft in Edmonton for twenty-four years until retirement. He liked to lead a healthy and active lifestyle and played tennis often. He also kept up with laborious house work like shoveling and changing tires on the family’s cars up until his last few months. He was a very neat and organized man and kept the finances of the household in order. He never hesitated to lend a helping hand to those he cared for and was gifted in many areas – technology inclined, handy man, artist, athlete, advice giver, accountant, joker, husband, father, grandfather,
all around amazing person. There is not enough space on a page to speak about the remarkable qualities and life experience of Zoran, and how much he meant to the people who knew him.
Zoran was predeceased by his mother Karolina, his father Milevoj, and his older sister Branka. He leaves behind his wife Faketa, daughters Majda and Dijana, son in laws Ryan and Boyan and their respective families, grandchildren Dominik and Viktoria, sisters Radmila, Milena, and Jozica, and brothers Dobrica and Dragan, and many loving friends. Our family and friends all over the world are in deep mourning as Zoran leaves the space of a great man behind. He is and will continue to be deeply missed.
