Ivan James STROHSCHEIN

Ivan James Strohschein was born to Harry and Verda Strohschein on August 5, 1953, in Trochu, Alberta. He passed away on January 21, 2026, in Stony Plain, AB.

Ivan began his formal education at Huxley Elementary School and graduated from grade 12 at Trochu Valley High School.

Hard work was something Ivan was always familiar with. From chores on the family farm to every career path he chose, the newness or magnitude of the task rarely, if ever, left him daunted. At a young age, he showed that he was responsible, and he forever continued expanding his knowledge, his skills, and his resume.

Ivan worked as a gas fitter, tin basher and plumber, and often used these skills to help out friends and family.

He took some training with the RCMP and, for a period of time, transported prisoners around the country.

He was a truck driver in a variety of capacities. He hauled oilfield equipment, transported lumber/veneer, relocated holiday trailers and various long-haul items from the US to Alberta, etc., notably surpassing a million or more miles in these truck-driving days/years.

He even had a season of commercial pig farming on the family farm.

More recently, Ivan worked with a highway maintenance company in the Edmonton area, plowing snow, delivering paint, etc.

On a personal level, Ivan renovated and built several houses, and not surprisingly, he did so with precision and excellence.

As a younger man, he worked as a farm hand and then from year to year, you could find him helping out many a grateful farmer at seed time or harvest. His love for the farm never left him.  A version of the somewhat common saying goes, “you can take the man off the farm but you can’t take the farm out of the man.”

He had a great deal of interest in firefighting and gave that a tangible outlet by volunteering, for many years, with the Trochu Fire Department.

Ivan is survived by his brother Harold (Lois) Strohschein, his sisters Phyllis (Gordon) Diks, Gloria (Shane) Wilson, Janet (Jean) Paquette, Lois Mah, and Lorna (Peter) Drinkwater. He is also survived by his son Joseph Blampied (Natasha), his grandson Callum Blampied and his step grand-daughter Sydney Engblom, numerous nieces and nephews and many special friends.

A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at Trochu Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Trochu, Alberta at 1:30 p.m.
