Tibor “Ted” Takacs

Tibor “Ted” Takacs was born on January 28, 1942, and grew up in Janoshaza, Hungary. As a young teenager, he escaped the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, with a simple but determined goal: to build a life he could be proud of. Through perseverance, and quiet humility, he achieved that goal many times over.

For Ted, life was always about the journey, never the destination. Rarely content to stay still for long, he embraced each new adventure and had a remarkable gift for storytelling, captivating family, friends, and even strangers with his endless collection of stories. Whether he was searching for his next classic truck restoration project, researching the next Hungarian soldier he would honour through sculpture, mining for gold in the Yukon, or planning another motorcycle expedition through the Great North, Europe or mainland Mexico, he embraced each new challenge with curiosity, passion, and purpose.

Ted didn’t save his dreams for someday, but he lived them! He truly lived his bucket list, making the most of every opportunity life offered. Through his many adventures, he touched the hearts, minds and souls of countless friends and family throughout Alberta, the Yukon, Mexico, France, Australia, the United States and Hungary.

Above all else, Ted’s greatest pride was his family. He shared 59 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Sharon, and together they built a life filled with love, dedication, and countless memories. He was a proud father to his daughters, Tracy (Clay) and Shelly (Kevin), who will forever cherish his accomplishments, admire his remarkable talents, and remember his quiet, unassuming nature.

Ted passed away on June 25, 2026, at the age of 84, knowing he had fulfilled the dream that brought him to Canada nearly 70 years earlier. He built a life that not only made him proud, but one that filled his family with pride as well. Ted will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and never forgotten.
