Gordon Thomas Vaughan
January 16th, 1951 – December 3rd, 2024

Gordon Vaughan, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on December 3rd, 2024, at the age of 73. Born a twin on January 16th, 1951, Gordon lived a life marked by hard work, generosity, and dedication to his family and community. Known for his quick wit and sense of humor, he brought joy to everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Gordon was raised in Onoway, Alberta, along with his six siblings. In his youth, he was deeply involved with the church serving as an alter boy and later as a Sunday school teacher. He had a passion for sports, enjoying fastball and becoming a hockey referee.

He met his wife, Gail, while working at ITT Grinnell in Edmonton in 1974. In 1975, they married and two years later, built their family home in Onoway, where they raised their two daughters. Gordon worked as the Public Works Foreman for many years before he and Gail started their own business, Onoway Lumber and Building Supplies, in 1988. As the proud and dedicated owner, Gordon became known for his commitment to excellence and outstanding customer service, leaving a lasting impact on the community. After selling their business in 2005, he worked at Water’s Edge Resort for several years before retiring. In retirement, Gordon devoted his time meticulously maintaining their home and yard, helping family and neighbors with small jobs and cutting grass at the Anglican Cemetery alongside family members. During the winters, he was well known for clearing snow for his neighbors, church, Seely Manor and local businesses.

Throughout his life, Gordon was involved with many organizations- The Elks Club, Lions Club, Onoway Fish and Game, Onoway Gun Club and the Onoway Police Radio Network. He enjoyed curling with his wife and friends at the Onoway Curling Club and coaching T-ball.  Gordon had also served on the Council for the Village of Onoway.

Gordon had a deep love for spending time with family. He cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. He enjoyed decorating for Christmas with his kids, building them doll houses, hunting and fishing with his nephews and brothers, and watching his grandchildren, nieces and nephews play sports. He enjoyed any televised sporting event while completing crossword puzzles from the Journal and scratching his lottery tickets.

Gordon is survived by and will be lovingly remembered by his wife Gail, and daughters Charissa (David) Morrill and Candice (Miles) Morgan. His memory will live on through his grandchildren, Shaelyn, Dawson, Devyn, and Milo. He also leaves to mourn his brothers George (Brenda) Vaughan and David (Bonnie) Vaughan and his sisters Margaret (Darrell) Miller, Brenda (Ray) Huxley and Patricia Vaughan. He will also be sadly missed by his mother-in-law Mary Sashuk, brothers-in-law Dave (Irene) Sashuk, Terry (Jean) Sashuk, his sister-in-law Diane (Marcel) Caouette, Randy Pichette as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and good friends.

Gordon was predeceased by his parents, Tom and Ruth and his younger brother, Ken.

A Memorial Service will be held on December 16th at 2:00 p.m. at the Onoway Community Hall. The family kindly requests donations be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation in Gordon’s honor.

I have many fond memories of Gord. Being a younger cousin to him, his teasing me to dance with girls at all the family weddings at the community hall give me a chuckle now. He is in peace now. Condolences to the whole family.
