Jürg Weber, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025, at the age of 81 in St. Albert, Alberta.

Born in Niderurnen, Switzerland to Arthur and Anna Weber on March 1, 1944, Jürg developed a passion for the culinary arts at a young age. He apprenticed at the renowned Grand Hotel Dolder in Zurich Switzerland, laying the foundation for a lifelong career as a Red Seal Chef and Pastry Chef. Jürg married Margaret Petermann in Switzerland in August 1971 after having met in the hospitality industry in Montreal. They settled in Toronto where they welcomed their daughter Sandra-Veronica (Sandy) before moving west to Edmonton in 1979 where he continued to work in the hotel industry.

Jürg’s entrepreneurial spirit and love of food led him and Margaret to open several well-known restaurants that reflected his skill, creativity, and European influence. These included La Bodega Bistro and Wine Bar in EdmontonCafé Soleil on Kelowna’s west side, and Village Bistro in Canmore, Alberta. He later concluded his professional career with Safeway Canada, working in both Canmore and Edmonton.

Known for his dedication to his craft and famously remembered for making the best herb butter, Jürg took great pride in feeding others and bringing people together through food.

Above all, Jürg was a devoted family man. He is survived by his loving wifeMargaret Weber; his daughter, Sandy Weber, and her spouse, Bruce Dundas; his cherished grandchildren, Nicholas, Emily, and Jordan Dundas; his brother Martin (Helene) and extended family. He was predeceased by his father Arthur Weber in 1996, his mother Anna Weber in 2003 and brother Dieter Weber in 2013. He was deeply loved and will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and unwavering commitment to his family.

Jürg Weber’s legacy lives on in the many lives he touched, the meals he lovingly prepared, and the family who will forever hold him in their hearts.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the doctors, nursing staff and pastoral care from Foyer Lacombe Hospice in St. Albert and especially Dr. Ben Macedo, Jürg’s long time family physician for the compassionate care and support provided during such a difficult time. Your kindness, patience, and professionalism brought comfort not only to Jürg but to our entire family. You treated Jürg with dignity and respect, ensuring he was as comfortable as possible in his final months and days.

No formal service has been planned. If you are so inclined, Jürg donated to the Heart and Stroke Foundation on a monthly basis and was a passionate blood donor.
