Tyler Andrew James Wilson was born April 13, 1981 to Deb (Lynes) and James Wilson. His father’s work in the RCMP meant that the family, including older sister Noelle, moved from Manitoba to Quebec to Alberta and Saskatchewan. The family relocated to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan after the tragic passing of Tyler’s father in 1986. Tyler attended elementary and high school in Saskatoon. He grew up playing hockey and soccer and took up rugby in his teens.
In 2001 he met Barbra while both were working at a restaurant in Saskatoon. In 2006, Ty and Barb moved to Edmonton to finish their post secondary studies and “make a go of it”. Tyler transferred from the Geophysics program at the University of Winnipeg into the Civil Engineering program at the University of Alberta. Tyler graduated in 2010 with his BSc in Civil Engineering. Barb graduated the same year and they planned their future together, marrying in 2011. Their son Benjamin Pike joined the family in June 2014 followed by their daughter, Rachel Grey, in 2016. Ty’s kids were his ultimate accomplishment and he was fiercely proud of both of them. He was a devoted father, bestowing a lifetime of dad advice into the time he did have with his children. He coached his kids in soccer and hockey anytime he could, and was loyal to his clubs.
Ty had a successful career as a Civil Engineer. After working in mining which took him overseas for a stint, he began to work for the Government of Alberta as the Bridge Manager for the Peace River Region. He was proud of the work he did for the Region; pushing projects through and building legacy structures in the province. He was loved and respected by his colleagues at the GoA but also by the many consultants, contractors and citizens he met along the way. His so-called “side hustle” with Refined Interiors was where he really excelled. He worked hard to win big projects and grow the company.
He is survived by his wife and partner of 22 years, Barbra, his son Benjamin, daughter Rachel all of Edmonton, sister Noelle (Kurt Bulow) and nephew Teddy of Surrey, BC, mother Deb, of Winnipeg, sister Amy (Abbigale) Snaz of Winnipeg, mother and father-in-law Ann and Greg Fortin, and sister -in-law Jacqueline Fortin, all of Saskatoon, SK. Tyler was predeceased by his father James in 1986 and his beloved Nana, Nancy Crerar in 2017.
Tyler truly lived his life to the fullest. He worked hard, but played hard. He loved to go camping and fishing; visiting the mountains anytime he could, and spending time with the great friends he made along the way. Good Guy Ty will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
