Zbigniew Witold ZELENT
Zbigniew Witold Zelent, 75 years old, born on March 2, 1948, found eternal peace on Wednesday, July 5, 2023. Zbigniew, also known as “Big Ben”, immigrated to Edmonton, Alberta Canada from Krakow, Poland with his family in 1980. In Canada, Ben became employed as an electrician with Canadian National Railway, where he was employed for over 25 years. Those whose lives he touched have fond memories of his hearty sense of humour, generosity and his strong-willed disposition.
Ben loved travelling, surrounding himself in nature, bike riding, and picking mushrooms. He also enjoyed skiing as well as playing and watching soccer. Ben was also an amazing cook who specialized in creating delicious Polish cuisine enjoyed by many. His family and friends also recall his love of music, where he could be often observed listening and dancing to music at the loudest levels.
As a father, he engaged his children in DIY projects, fostering in them a mastery of simple fixes and an appreciation for solid construction. At one point, he managed an ice rink where his son played hockey, and worked extra hard to ensure he had a smooth surface for skating as well as ensuring his blades were always sharpened. A precision driver, his family recall his penchant for being the first to drive off of a fresh green light, claiming that it was safest for them.
Ben was an active member of his Polish community in Edmonton, often volunteering at casinos as well as at Polish Heritage events. Family and community alike could always expect a mini fruity candy from his pocket, a sweet and thoughtful endearment that let them know his gratitude of time well spent.
Ben is predeceased by his parents, Stanislawa and Witold Zelent. He leaves behind his former spouse Danuta, his son Dominik (Ashley Leschuk) and his grandchildren Alexander, Tomick, and Mila. In addition, he also leaves behind his nephew Adaś Gronkowski and his daughter Angelica (Kayle Leonard).
Funeral service will held on Friday, July 21, 2023, 2:00 pm at Pointe West Cremation and Funeral Service, located at 15305 112 Ave, Edmonton.
